Thank you so much!

The best tip I can give to new game developers is to build modular systems whenever possible. They serve as reusable foundation and building blocks you can carry into every future game. Think about why Elden Ring feels so refined, it’s not because FromSoftware scrapped everything and started from scratch. It’s because they are reusing system they spent decades building, testing and perfecting across their older souls games.

Your goals for a jam also matter a lot. For this one, I didn’t aim to learn anything new. Instead I focused on creating a game I had in mind using skills I already had. I usually save learning for longer jams, because even researching and building just one new system can eat up an entire day and leave you with only a singular feature. (for example I spent 12 hours just to learn how to render water for another game jam)

Also AI is just insane Nowadays. Being able to generate hundreds of lines of code in seconds feels almost overpowered. Especially when you combine it with your own skills and you don’t just vibe code, but instead you work together with the AI, filling the gaps of each other. I wouldn’t recommend relying on AI for beginners, since repetition is still the best way to learn, but once you’ve got the skills, using AI becomes almost essential for working efficiently, especially in short jams or prototyping. You can always refactor the code for production later if the prototype turns into a full game.

Yeah, you can add me on discord. My username there is HennaKristal

Hi, I’m making a top down battleship shooter for this game jam. I’m currently working alone and could collaborate with someone who’s interested in creating retro style music for a pixel art game. The game is being made in Unity, and since it’s still in early development, there are no existing audio systems. I’d be open to using FMOD if you’re interested in going that route!

I’ve always been interested to learn how to sync music better in boss combat. Similar to how Elden Ring Nightreign bosses execute their ultimate attacks synced to the soundtrack creating really cinematic experiences. I’d love to experiment with something like that during this jam.

I’ll be participating in the Unity Anniversary Game Jam tomorrow, which runs for two days, so I’ll jump back into this project after that. Let me know if you’re interested in making some military/navy/ocean themed retro action music.

Skateboarding wizard!? Now that is a cool and badass idea for a game! 🧙‍♂️🛹

  • Tower Defense = Awesome
  • This Game = Tower Defense
  • This Game = Awesome

I’ve checked the logic, and I can confirm this game is awesome!

Surprisingly fun game! I didn’t expect it to be so addicting trying to beat your personal high score with each run.

Managed to break the 1300 barrier, fun game to optimize!

Interesting game, I like the concept. I would have liked a little more control over the ball collisions, for example, forcing the ball to go left if it hits the left side of the paddle rather than perfectly following the angle of entry.

Awesome and cute game. It should be very easy to add collectibles, moving platforms, more enemy types, and all kinds of features if you ever want to revisit and expand the project. Such a great entry!

Nice game! The movement felt a little awkward with such a large difference in speed during acceleration, it definitely got me killed multiple times.

That’s nasty, but it really highlights the importance of version control like Git.

I might have fed the mini game a bit too much, so now it's more of a "MEGA MINI GAME"!
:)

Thank you for the kind words. The initial concept was linked to gold, as it is typically measured with scales, and this evolved into the idea of scaling your mining operation over time. We also considered incorporating a dragon theme, as dragons have scales and are known to be connected to gold. However, this idea was eventually dropped because lack of time, which explains why the last layer is named 'dragon stone' even though there is no dragons to be found.

Thank you for trying out our game! This issue likely comes from the lack of visual and audio feedback when receiving items. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to implement these quality of life improvements into the game.
