Well done game, tricky gameplay that is trial by error. Keep it up.

By any chance, is this inpsired by OlliOlli?

Really enjoyed my time with this, even though I was really bad at the tricks. I kinda wish there was a bit more to the stage, sometimes It just felt empty but I guess you could set up speed spells on those parts for speedruns.

Tricks were nice, having to release and re-press jump is kinda tricky to get through, and I kinda don’t like how you cannot exist a grind, but those are not offensive at all.

Intro was cool, overall nice idea, would be interested in some followups if that is a plan! Could be a nice full fledged game in the future!

note: got an error on game load abouzt fulll screen denied

Lol I did go buy OlliOlli to take inspiration when someone pointed out how similar they were.
Glad to hear you enjoyed it! It is possible to exit a grind by letting go of the arrow key, unless this is a new bug. And we're definitely going to be developing some new content for it.
Thank you for the feedback!

Beautiful artwork and the story is really funny. Had a hard time grasping the controllers at first but I got so hooked when everything clicked in my head, really good stuff, enjoyed it very much!

Thank you, glad you liked it! I absolutely do want to rework the tutorial so that it clicks easier for people. I'm happy to hear that it was fun once it made sense. Cheers for playing!

I really liked the intro and the setup for the creation of the magical wooden board of fast movement. The game looks great and plays well. I think there is a lot of potential in the idea. I felt that the trick selection was a little bit arbitrary, or at least I wasn’t able to figure out which combination would lead to which spell. Additionally, I would like to see the effect take place immediately after the board is filled and be able to predict what the outcome will be (e.g., 4 x green = heal spell, 4 x blue = missiles), and potentially discover some new cool combinations by mistake. The level design was great for the skateboarding part, but I felt I could sort of skip the casting and still comfortably reach the end. Overall, it was a lot of fun, and I would love to see it expanded and fully fleshed out.

Thank you for the feedback!
I'd definitely like to make the spell selection less vague, I do like the idea of it triggering as soon as the board is filled. And a way to better communicate how the colors determine the spells you get is something I want to look into.
Glad to hear it was fun to play, thank you for playing!

10/10 for the cutscene. The controls I felt were too hard to grasp fast enough, the tutorial wasn't that clear.

I think with a slower pacing at the start (introducing a mechanic then giving the player time to understand it, by designing the level in such a way to use the mechanic in a simple way) this game could rock.

Very fun, I enjoyed every single bit even with the controls flying over my head.

Developer

Thank you!
Yeah giving players more time to use and understand each mechanic as it's introduced would be good. The tutorial definitely needs a rework and isn't as clear as I want it to be.
I'm happy to hear you  enjoyed it regardless, thank you for playing!

10/10 intro. Loved the simplicity of the sketches and all the frames we had for the story.

In the tutorial, while great in concept, was a bit difficult to understand. The stones that show up going basically “Up arrow + W + (all the arrows)” make me a bit confused as I don’t understand exactly what will happen with each of the options. Maybe I’d make that even more incremental.

I love the feeling of sliding around in my skateboard, and the art of it being a wizard in sunglasses is very fun.

I wanted to do more tricks and stop falling face-first, but I am having a bit of trouble learning and understand the commands and where to apply them.

Very nice job though… very funny and pleasing.

I'm glad you liked it, thank you!
Definitely agree the tutorial needs to be fleshed out more. There is a lot to communicate especially with the trick system which isn't super clear right now. The tricks I realize could also be more lenient with timing so people aren't falling over so much!

Cheers for the feedback, and thanks for playing!

Developer

Thanks for the review. It's great to hear that you like vibe of the game.

With the controls that was the biggest hurdle we had when we had some friends test our game. The controls are unorthodox but we felt that it would allow us to give the player the most choice with their tricks and spells. It's definitely the biggest thing to work on or at least explain better if we continue.

Skateboarding wizard!? Now that is a cool and badass idea for a game! 🧙‍♂️🛹

It's increadible. I love it.

Good Points:

  • the gameplay, it's too fun to try to do some tricks
  • the spell combination aspect is really good

Point to work on:

  • Why can't I jump over enemy when I am on a ramp
Developer

Thanks much appreciated. You can jump on ramps if you let go of the grind (Don't touch left, right or down). Although the enemy placement can be pretty mean and it isn't shown that left and right are grind keys in the tutorial.
