Oh, I don't think it needs to be! It was a big part of the fun for me as I learned to decipher the combinations of in and on.

Love the visuals, as I am a big fan of good pixel art. I'm also impressed you were able to add an options menu in such a short time, a feature my own game is certainly lacking. That said, the gameplay could be improved, as there does not seem to be a difficulty ramp, or it's too slow. Also, the score banners did not always go away after clicking, and the game pausing when they appeared rather than simply appearing and disappearing on their own cut into the gameplay a bit.
While the mechanics are, of course, quite simple for a city builder, I am impressed you attempted a city builder at all in such a short time. The art is very nice. I only wish we could have seen signs of the beast attack, such as an audio cue, the beast prowling, or visual effects on the settlements.
Oh dang, that is unlucky! They spawn 1 per second, which slowly ramps down over time, plus 12 pre-spawned near player spawn. You can usually find groups if you keep moving to different areas of the dungeon. My current best is 61, which has admittedly been quite hard to beat. I'm glad you enjoyed it, nonetheless! I had a lot of fun with the DnD theme.
Thanks for such a detailed review! I definitely used reaction time to up the challenge quite a bit. Not only do you slowly approach the edge of the screen in each stage, but, like you said, it gets reduced significantly in stage 4. It was definitely intended to up the difficulty with time.
I used visuals to keep things challenging and simulate Azul's own difficulty seeing and dodging attacks. This is especially the case with the blizzard in stage 3. However, I definitely see how the arrow's size could get frustrating, and I'll keep that in mind going forward! It's no fun if you cannot see the threats at all!
All in all, I'm quite glad you enjoyed the little story I told and the way I told it. Thank you for playing, and for the useful feedback!
This was a lot of fun. It reminds of retro platformers, with your choice of sound effects and all. The spellcasting combat was a lot of fun. Could benefit from a control scheme, but once I figured out what I was doing, I quite liked Sivard, The Lizard Wizard.
Also, I, too, went for a reptile character for the scales ^^
