I'm curious too, how did you approach your pathfinding? Is the rattle sound based on number of tiles away? It's so good! I also like your level design, my wife appreciated that there were no dead ends haha :)

It's super inefficient haha. Every frame I mark the positions of the player and snakes in a grid. Then at fixed intervals each snake head checks:

- Is the player in the next tile I'm headed toward -> keep going

- Otherwise if the next tile turning (left/right/straight) toward the player is safe -> turn in that direction

- Else pick the safest direction available (measured in # of empty tiles in a straight line)

It's not the smartest or the most efficient, but it's what I came up with and it kinda felt interesting to play against haha. I think it's good that it's not too smart. I had an even simpler version initially and I'm still not sure if making it smarter made it more fun 😆

Haha thanks!

Hey thanks! And good call on the difficulty - I want to do a post-jam version with some tuning of the spawn rate, and play with length. Also I'm curious to find a way to make the snake behavior feel a bit more understandable.

Thanks! Really glad you enjoyed it!

Aw thanks man! Glad you had fun with it! It's risky business riding snakes haha!

Really glad you enjoyed it!

Are all the male characters cowboys? It seemed like only some of them made babies - maybe I couldn't tell which ones were cowboys?

(1 edit)

Really well done and super polished for 48hrs solo. Lots of charm and juice. I was impressed how it kept going with more levels, though once I got into the 20s scores, it felt like it needed a new mechanic to shift up the puzzle solving. Really impressive! Well done!

Music is amazing haha. It turns out I'm not a very good western-era mother haha. I couldn't figure out the rules behind which cowboys I could make babies with. I think the highest score I got was 33. Took a lot of bullets for my babies! Good fun!

Wow I'm amazed y'all pulled that off in just 48 hrs! Art and mechanics are super impressive! Well done!

Haha thanks! I'm really glad you had fun with it and enjoyed the tension of snake riding!

That was surprisingly fun for how simple the mechanics are. Good juice from camera shake and particle effects, art aesthetic is tight and looks great! Well done!

A fellow snake-reverser! That was great - mildly terrifying haha! The sound of the snake's rattle alerting you that you're about to get rekt is awesome! Super cool, well done!

A fellow snake-reverser! Great presentation! Visuals and audio are great! At first I couldn't figure out the apple kicking, so I was focused on running circles around the snake. Then I figured out how to kick fruit and that changed everything! Nicely done :)

A fellow snake-reverser! Cool spin on the idea :)

I'm a sucker for numbers going up haha! Stages 1 & 2 were pretty engaging, and I liked the multi-tasking concept. Ngl I may have left stage 3 running in the background for a few hours haha. Not sure if it keeps going after 100% market share. Good fun :)

Super fun! Difficulty starting at max was punishing haha. I definitely cranked it down to zero and then worked my way up. Feels quite polished across the board. Really well done!

Very clever and super challenging!

Music was nice and the melee attack felt good. I felt the other attacks weren't strong enough for the length of their cooldowns and the number of enemies spawning. I lost pretty quickly haha.

Cool concept! It took me a bit to figure out what the logic was behind which character I would jump to next. I think I figured out the rules on the last level after a bunch of tries. Could be helpful to show some hint toward which character you'll jump to if you want that to happen earlier. I got stuck on the wall collisions a bit and the crash sound was a little loud/jarring, but I enjoyed figuring out the puzzles and getting to the end. Nicely done!

Awesome concept! The sliders serving as both platforms and changing the physics is brilliant! The platforming / controls felt a little slippery at times and I died a bunch to the camera slider putting me through a wall. Great sounds and good fun! Nicely done!

52! Nice! That's higher than my best score! Thanks for the feedback. With more time I would like to add a sort of pacman powerup that gives you a window to eat snakes. I might try it out post-jam. Might lean into the snake riding a bit more too haha.

Woot! Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks! Happy to hear you had fun with it!

Awesome! I'm really glad you enjoyed it :D

That's intentional :) Part of the fun is figuring out how to get the upperhand :D Glad you had fun with it!

Fellow snake-reverser! Nicely done with the items :) Music is catchy too!

Very nicely done!

Very clever! Cool to see what a fellow Snake-reverser came up with :D I couldn't figure out how to beat Loop; you stumped me! I'll have to keep noodling on that one :P Nicely done!

Great artwork!

Neat idea! Lots of cool directions you could take with different rooms and rpg elements.

Cool concept! I like the replay-ability too. nicely done!
