I released patch today which should fix the issue. Give it a try and let me know if you're still having problems.

Unfortunately, there is no built-in auto-updater if you're playing the version downloaded directly from the website. If you've got the itch app, though, you should get notified about updates and have an opportunity to update the game. If you're playing the browser version, updates are instant and automatic.

Are you trying to load an older save? As is often the case, old saves aren't compatible with newer versions. If that wasn't the case, it would be really helpful if you joined the Discord and post some details of the issue, or email me at

Hello there!

You can remap most of the keys in the game to whatever commands you'd like. Just type /keybindings to see what your options are. If you aren't against using the mouse/trackpad, you can also click on the map to move around.

Thanks for taking the time to put together such detailed feedback! All the systems in FARA are in constant flux, and feedback on changes is always welcome. This is the first defense I've seen of the old system, and it's good to know that people liked certain elements of it. As the game matures, I hope to strike a sweet spot between accessibility and depth.

Hey there!

Unfortunately, the web version and desktop versions don't share any information, and there isn't any convenient way to transfer saves at the moment.

Hey all!

Would it be possible to get an additional option in the 'Embed Options' dropdown to open our games in a new window or tab instead of an iframe? I'm using IndexedDB as my storage solution for my HTML5 game ( and as a result, it won't load in Safari due to its security restrictions with iframes.

Yes, size descriptions are definitely out of wack right at the moment. Now that the next big release is out of the way, I'll be sure to take some time to clean up those descriptions.

Hey there!

Thanks for the report. I'll look into in tonight and see what I can find.

The first slot is considered your primary hand, and the second is considered your offhand. Certain items work better in certain slots. Which ones you consider left and right are up to you. Players have started a wiki to document their findings, and could always use more contributors!

Hey there!

Thanks for taking the time to put together your thoughts! Here are some answers for you:

- I'll take a look at the scroll weight problem and include a fix in the next update.

- Regarding the combat dummy - I think having it do actual damage is useful for testing your resilience and triggerable effects, but agree that I could add another tip or two to inform players about resting to recover health.

- The freeform nature of equipment slots is very intentional, and if someone wants to wear 6 different kinds of goggles or a glass table, more power to them.

I completely sympathize with your desire to have the game convey more information, but that's not what FARA is about. Ideally, you're supposed to try different things out and do you best to remember what works well and what doesn't. If you haven't already, please be sure to join us on Discord! The community is pretty active, and there are many players willing to offer tips and tricks on getting by.

Unless otherwise stated, every update applies to both web and desktop versions.

Hey there!

You'll automatically use ammunition in your inventory if you have it, and you need to be at least one tile away from what you're shooting. Otherwise, you'll melee with the weapon. If you haven't already, be sure to join us on the Discord!

An update for anyone who's curious - some issues involving combat turns have been solved as of the latest patch! That said, most non-combat actions are pretty slow in comparison, so it isn't unusual for several turns of combat to pass if you choose to perform more mundane actions.

Party members adhere to a ironclad code - Murder anything that causes their friends harm. No exceptions.

Really though, I'll be sure to address this in the next few patches. Thanks for the report! If you haven't already, be sure to join us on the Discord!

The Mac version hasn't undergone any architecture changes since it was introduced. I'll poke around later and see what I can find.

Do you remember what you were doing before the unjust ambush?

For anyone who might happen upon this thread at a late date - this feature has been implemented! You can now type /font to disable FARA's pixelated font.

Hey there!

The exit issue will be addressed in tonight's patch. I'll be sure to take a look at the leaderboard issue and see what I can do there, but I'd try not get too attached in the meantime - every aspect of FARA is in constant flux, and stuff will get deleted all the time while the game is in alpha and beta.

Thanks for the report!

They need to be targeting you and moving toward your location. If something meets the criteria to utilize the Kensai's special ability, they'll have the text, "They look ready for a showdown!" in their /inspect description. If you're looking for more tips, be sure to join us on the Discord!

Thanks for the suggestion!

Brewmaster is definitely in need of an update considering how much the game has changed since the classes was added. I love the idea of them making Brews instead of meals. I'll try messing around with some mechanics and see what comes of it.

Thanks again for the feedback!

Hey there!

Getting your equipment stolen while inside is a bug, and should be ironed out in the next patch.

Hey there!

There is currently no supported way to change the font, but it's a feature request I've heard a few times now and plan to include the option sooner than later.

Do you remember what your were doing when the game crashed?

Hey there!

Thanks for the feedback. The leaderboard only displays your top 20 runs, so as you finish more games, your should knock all those 0's off the board. If you haven't already, but sure to join our Discord!

This has been fixed, and a new build will be out in a few minutes. Thanks for the heads up!

As for the scrolling suggestion - I'll add a bindable command to scroll the side panes some time this week.

Hey there!

Thanks for flagging this. It's been fixed, and new builds will be out in a few minutes.

Thanks! I appreciate your appreciation.

You can drink from any fresh water source by being near it and pressing [ e ], or typing drink. Fresh water sources have a little blue '~' next to their name.

A save feature is going to be added to the offline version of FARA which will be available to supporters in the future. I wish I could provide an ETA, but there's too much to hammer out system-wise before I can start thinking about how to properly save all the needed information.

Thanks for your feedback and encouragement. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the game!

Thank you!

Hey there!

'Container' was maybe not the best word to use, since it also includes campfires and fire pits. To cook, hold the ingredient you want to add, then /give it to the lightable object. Lightable objects which can hold ingredients are campfires, fire pits, and stoves. Once you've added all your ingredients, target the lightable object and type /cook. I've updated the /help description to hopefully be clearer. As it stands, corpses should be cookable. Let me know if that isn't working!

Additionally, the build I've just uploaded includes a form of butchering. Attacking an animal corpse with a bladed weapon will butcher it up into raw meat.

Thank you so much for your feedback, and thanks for playing!

Hey friends!

If you like text-based games and roguelike-likes, you should give FARA a shot. It's got over 50 ways to play and it's free. The game is still young and buggy, so feedback is appreciated and encouraged!
