I released patch 0.0.16.5d today which should fix the issue. Give it a try and let me know if you're still having problems.
Unfortunately, there is no built-in auto-updater if you're playing the version downloaded directly from the itch.io website. If you've got the itch app, though, you should get notified about updates and have an opportunity to update the game. If you're playing the browser version, updates are instant and automatic.
Are you trying to load an older save? As is often the case, old saves aren't compatible with newer versions. If that wasn't the case, it would be really helpful if you joined the Discord and post some details of the issue, or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
You can remap most of the keys in the game to whatever commands you'd like. Just type /keybindings to see what your options are. If you aren't against using the mouse/trackpad, you can also click on the map to move around.

Thanks for taking the time to put together such detailed feedback! All the systems in FARA are in constant flux, and feedback on changes is always welcome. This is the first defense I've seen of the old system, and it's good to know that people liked certain elements of it. As the game matures, I hope to strike a sweet spot between accessibility and depth.

Would it be possible to get an additional option in the 'Embed Options' dropdown to open our games in a new window or tab instead of an iframe? I'm using IndexedDB as my storage solution for my HTML5 game (playfara.com) and as a result, it won't load in Safari due to its security restrictions with iframes.
The first slot is considered your primary hand, and the second is considered your offhand. Certain items work better in certain slots. Which ones you consider left and right are up to you. Players have started a wiki to document their findings, and could always use more contributors! http://fara.wikia.com/wiki/FARA_Wiki
Thanks for taking the time to put together your thoughts! Here are some answers for you:
- I'll take a look at the scroll weight problem and include a fix in the next update.
- Regarding the combat dummy - I think having it do actual damage is useful for testing your resilience and triggerable effects, but agree that I could add another tip or two to inform players about resting to recover health.
- The freeform nature of equipment slots is very intentional, and if someone wants to wear 6 different kinds of goggles or a glass table, more power to them.
I completely sympathize with your desire to have the game convey more information, but that's not what FARA is about. Ideally, you're supposed to try different things out and do you best to remember what works well and what doesn't. If you haven't already, please be sure to join us on Discord! https://discordapp.com/invite/TxECEtn. The community is pretty active, and there are many players willing to offer tips and tricks on getting by.
An update for anyone who's curious - some issues involving combat turns have been solved as of the latest patch! That said, most non-combat actions are pretty slow in comparison, so it isn't unusual for several turns of combat to pass if you choose to perform more mundane actions.
Party members adhere to a ironclad code - Murder anything that causes their friends harm. No exceptions.
Really though, I'll be sure to address this in the next few patches. Thanks for the report! If you haven't already, be sure to join us on the Discord! https://discordapp.com/invite/TxECEtn
The exit issue will be addressed in tonight's patch. I'll be sure to take a look at the leaderboard issue and see what I can do there, but I'd try not get too attached in the meantime - every aspect of FARA is in constant flux, and stuff will get deleted all the time while the game is in alpha and beta.
Thanks for the report!
They need to be targeting you and moving toward your location. If something meets the criteria to utilize the Kensai's special ability, they'll have the text, "They look ready for a showdown!" in their /inspect description. Thanks for the suggestion!
Brewmaster is definitely in need of an update considering how much the game has changed since the classes was added. I love the idea of them making Brews instead of meals. I'll try messing around with some mechanics and see what comes of it.
Thanks again for the feedback!
A save feature is going to be added to the offline version of FARA which will be available to supporters in the future. I wish I could provide an ETA, but there's too much to hammer out system-wise before I can start thinking about how to properly save all the needed information.
Thanks for your feedback and encouragement. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the game!
'Container' was maybe not the best word to use, since it also includes campfires and fire pits. To cook, hold the ingredient you want to add, then /give it to the lightable object. Lightable objects which can hold ingredients are campfires, fire pits, and stoves. Once you've added all your ingredients, target the lightable object and type /cook. I've updated the /help description to hopefully be clearer. As it stands, corpses should be cookable. Let me know if that isn't working!
Additionally, the build I've just uploaded includes a form of butchering. Attacking an animal corpse with a bladed weapon will butcher it up into raw meat.
Thank you so much for your feedback, and thanks for playing!
