there are some unpolished parts and notable bugs, like the game scene which isnt centered on the screen, and personally the story is too short (blame it on the jam tho lol) (I like the story concept of teenagers who are going on self-existensialism phase (I suppose)), but I think it could be better if you would develop it further! I see there is a potential in this game, if you are willing to spend your time and sanity to develop it :v

(anyway, icl the artstyle is so cool, love it!)

dudee I LOVE this kind of shooter game! I also like the relatively simple yet polished artstyle! however, I don't know if this is a skill issue but I think the game is a bit too intense lol (probably my skill issue). And also, you may consider adding some effect that indicates that the bullet hit the beetle (like splashing blood?). anyway, great and fun game overall!

wow, didn't expect to get a thoughtful and thorough comments on this! really appreciate you taking the time to try the game!

  • yes, the distance between each dot is quite wide, because I only tested it on my laptop, and that felt like the “best balance” at the time, lol. Also, the idea to make the dots glowing sounds good! Definitely gonna add it later.
  • As for the "wall" feature, I actually had the idea during development, but didn’t have enough time to implement it. You're right, just showing a message isn't enough. I might add more clear visual barriers in the future.
  • Your suggestion for "Papa's favorite drink" segment is quite brilliant! I really wanted players to understand that they need to avoid bottles in the later part but didn’t know how to introduce it properly. So yeah, I think most players would just walk onto it without realizing. I'll consider showing some hints earlier.
  • about the last segment--was it too hard? I tried to balance the - and + value, so it won't feel too easy nor too hard. But I think I might need to tweak it a little bit more.
  • YES. I don't know why but I also feel that in the last segment (encourage Maro), there is a noticeable performance drop. I thought that this is also my laptop issue, but knowing that you experienced the same issue, I guess I need to re-check the code to see what makes the segment a bit laggy (considering that the code is very simple as you've mentioned).

thank you soo much for playing this game! despite its flaws, I hope you had fun playing it :). it means a lot to get feedbacks for a first 'serious' project from other people lol!

Let There be Light by bbeetlesam

Hello! I created this very short game within 3 days for a jam, and I'd like someone to give critics and suggestions for the game!
This game is about a kid who wakes up in the middle of the night dark and try to find what happened, only to find that there is a voice that speaks to him (and us), asking him to escape from the place, for whatever reason.

Controls:

Use regular AWSD keys to move and ENTER to interact in some occasional events.

Note:

This game still has many bugs (I don't really sure about this though) and 'unfavorable' gameplay (since it's created in only 3 days or less), like the game environment that is too dark with little to no clues on where to go. My tips are you have to pay attention to little dots/dusts on the screen, as they will lead you somewhere, and also try to increase the brightness, if possible, since the dots' color are quite blends in with the dark background. Oh, and also, please report/tell me if you find any bugs!

(On the first act/starting game, you will most likely have no clue on where to go.  In here, you have to find a particular flashlight by simply roaming around. Don't worry, there is a limit on how far you can roam. If you reached the limit, there'll be a message that indicates you cannot go further)

Your critics really means to me, as they can help develop this game better, or generally, develop myself on how to create games with a good story and control later in the future!

it's up to you! (but maybe on the submission page is better lol)

dont worry, the game can be finished within 20 minutes! :)

Hello, I made a game called Let There be Light (https://bbeetlesam.itch.io/let-there-be-light) for this jam! And if you have watched TechHead's stream, you'll know that my game is kinda unplayable with very little to no clues for the gameplay (and the story).

But, besides all the flaws, I really want someone to play my game till finished and tell me their opinions on how good/bad the build-up story, the sfx, the control mechanism, and the overall design of the game, so I can improve my gamedev skill on the future!

(Tips: Increase the brightness and pay attentions little dots/dusts on the screen because they will lead you somewhere)
