Yup, seeing people struggle makes me think i need some kind of easier mode, just not sure how to make it easier in a fun way. Yeah that bird at the start can be quite mean :p

Thanks for giving the game a try ! The video is super helpful even without voice/comments, just seeing where a player struggles or has problems finding the right direction is great stuff. I apologise for the difficulty of the game :p

Hmm do you think i need to add a better explaination of what the different modes do ? Thanks for the intro to the vtubers !

Hey thanks for trying the game and giving such great feedback :) ! The 'humiliating' way to climb is to use the assisted mode :) In the options menu you can change all controls for keyboard/gamepad, unless that was bugged or something

Thanks so much for making the video, it turned out really good ! Always great seeing someone enjoying the game and maybe raging abit hehe :)

Thanks ! Yeah ill have to get to work on the itch.io page, i couldnt really figure out how to add fancy titles and stuff when i first made it so ill have to give it another look.

Edit : juiced up the page, theres probably alot more i could do but i think it looks alot better now !

Marketing is probably the thing im worst at, ive tried to promote alot on twitter and youtube but my game has barely even had 50 plays. I think marketing is always going to be hard unless you have a good budget or already have a know company/name.

You can try my challenging platformer called Soaring :) Just beware it is quite hard despite its cute looks :p

Yeah like once you realise how to keep the momentum going and using it to your advantage you can move around pretty fast, but for some people it just doesnt quite click at first, I need to somehow tutorialise it in the game. I was thinking maybe i could have a 'ghost replay' type thing at the start show you the basics of moving around or something ?

Thanks for giving it a try :) Dont feel discouraged the bird seed sign is about where most people get heh.

The movement momentum is something ive been struggling to balance, on one hand i really like that your movement has to be very deliberate, you cant just fly max speed all the time, but on the other hand it can feel very intuitive to some people that may be used to platformers that have very tight controls without momentum.

Walking is sorta just intended for very small movements, the way i hoped people would move around would be just to hop, but again maybe that is intuitive. If you watch this video of me playing the game you can see that i dont really walk much, but more try to do small jumps/hops to get around (youre a chicken you may aswell use your wings right :p ?).

Thanks Yu Jo !

Soaring , A challenging no combat platformer, try to climb to the top but watch your step !

Soaring

Hmm that sorta happens right now as is, though its tied to your vertical speed rather than actual flapping power, might try swapping it over and see how it looks ! Sound is a good idea once i get to it, maybe reduce the intensity of the flapping sounds as you run out of 'power'.

Thanks for the feedback !

The controls are for sure a little hard to get used to because of how much momentum there is, you have to be very deliberate with your movement, which is sorta different from most platformers where you have 100% air control all the time.

Music i was planning on having essentially a single track (or single track per 'zone') and the further you get the more intense the track becomes.

Right now the feather does nothing, and thats likely how it will stay, just as a collectable/acheivement type thing, I think it would be weird to hide something as powerful as a double jump/dash in such a hard place to spot (without me showing where it is :p)

Thats a great point about that dash jump, i may have to rework an early section so it forces you to dash jump without having a big fall lol.

Thank you :)

Hey guys this is my first time making a game and i think now ive got enough progress that i love to have some people test out the game and if possible give some feedback. Im looking for feedback on :

  • Difficulty
  • Controls
  • Art
  • Level Design

Any feedback outside of those areas is fine too :)

The game is a challenging platform somewhat along the lines of older amiga climbing games.

Post your feedback here on in the games community section !

Thanks guys !

Ill have to play around with it abit and see what feels good and also gives about the same overall gain in height/distance. Someone else mentioned that having your flapping power displayed somewhere would be handy, originally i had a flapping power bar (you can see it here in a very early video https://twitter.com/KittariaSoaring/status/1424465185457131522?s=20) i removed it because i thought it looked very forced, but id be open to adding some indication of flapping power back but cant think of an organic way to do it.

Thanks for the feedback ! The extra control over the flapping is something i should probably consider but ill have to think about how to implement it, right now you essentially have about 1 second of flapping time (while you have flapping time left you can control your direction better too) but after that all you can do is essentially steer yourself a little. Maybe id be better off giving say 5 defined flaps almost like 5 double jumps.

Another thing i considered was that your first flap always overrides gravity,  which would sorta help with falling off an edge and then flapping but may feel a little unintended.

Thanks guys !

I setup the price when i originally put up the asset 9ish days ago. I guess ill just need to keep waiting for a support reply.

As a side i just noticed that even when searching for my username is shows no assets but directly linking to the asset works fine, which i guess is related to not being indexed.

Thanks for the info !

Hi guys, i created an asset (a paid one) 9 days ago and it still hasnt shown in any of my search's. I understand that paid assets need to be manually approved by an admin but was under the impression that would be within 24 hours. Are the admins/support very backed up and i should just wait or have i somehow removed myself from being searchable (i followed the itch search index guide).

As a side is itch support also very backed up ?  My support ticket from a week or so ago seems unanswered.

Thanks

Hey there guys! This is my first asset pack so it is quite small with a little over 70 images + each image comes with its own separate outline, glow, and shadow for maximum customization :) Please take a look !
