I tried it out, but I'm sorry, the controls were PAINFUL to use. I don't understand why I could move faster going backwards than forwards. There's too much friction on the ground and nowhere near enough once airborne. There's also an area in the first level where I got stuck and couldn't die either. I quit at that point.

Based on how the character moves, I assume you used a rounded collider yeah? That makes the character easily slip off platforms, which feels awful when the controls are already difficult to use. I suppose it fits the theme of the level being flooded though.

Last bit of feedback, it's pretty apparent in my screenshot that the door is out of place. Its style doesn't match the rest of the art. It'd take only a few seconds to make a black rectangle of pixels and fill it with red, but makes a huge difference in visual consistency.

Developer

The reason you can go faster when going backward, was just to play with the idea of "The more knowledge you have about the game, the faster you can complete it".
So I added on purpose little odd speed difference.

I also don't understand what you mean where "There is too much friction on the ground", as I believe to have set my material to zero friction. I just set a constant velocity when walking on the group.
For the airborne control, they on purpose easily goes out of hand, and accumulate too much speed. Again, in order for someone trying to speed run, being able to abuse that.

I am indeed using a Capsule collider.

For the door, I just got to build last minute, and did not get time to fix theses stuff.
And for you being stuck, I know about this place, there is a "R" keybind that allow you to restart the level.

Thanks for you feedback, I know I have a lot to learn, and improve for my platformer control!

I did not do so great, I often got stuck mid-air between terrains. Also, I don't know if the theme-related content arrives after what I played, but I did not see it. I need to practice to go farther!

Got to admit we went light with the theme.
Basically, this is a parody of Mario, and you can see the character feet are inside the top of the block, which are blues.
The idea was kinda that Mario got overflowed, so our feet are in water

Ok, thank you for the explanation! :D

Nice game I cant deny I did terrible but it was fun trying to get better. I enjoyed trying to time out my jumps. Good game thanks and good luck.

Just finished in 0:28:464 (far from the other scores :p)

The character movement has a lot of inertia in it which makes it hard to control. Next time it would be nice if you experimented other methods of character movement (maybe take inspiration in your favorite platform games, . It is  actually fun to implement different stuff and see how it responds!  :D

A good inspiration can be this video:

(the stuff about sub-pixels is mostly irrelevant for you because your already kinda work with subpixels in unity).

Good luck in your game making adventures!

Developer

Yeah, given I implemented on purpose multiple bug, to make it references other speedrun bugs, I made some weird behavior.
I'll check your video, I still have a lot to learn on how to manage platformers movement, even tho I learn a lot during this jam as well.

Thanks for the feedback !

when jumping, the speed increases from 4 to 9, but if you get between 2 stones you can’t just jump out ((and it’s so interesting

Developer

I see you got stucked between the two stone in the first section.
I think it's due to the hitbox being a bit too wide, so you cannot touch the ground. So you're not grounded, and cannot jump again.

Main reason I add the restart mechanic! (I might have forgotten to write that pressing "R" make you return)

yes, exactly there. no, it was written about a reboot. jumping was sometimes possible, but then the character would get stuck in the air. there was simply not enough height - a small thing for me. clarified for the future if you decide to finish the game

Hey. Great job on the submission!

Cool

Cool game! I like the character sprites. The controls must be mastered to go faster. I would have loved to have checkpoints in order not to restart from zero each time I lose (yes, I'm a noob on plateformer games :P).

Good job!

Developer

Thanks for feedback!

I could have added checkpoint, but thought that it might not be needed since level is short.
But wouldn't have hurt for sure, would have made the non speedruning experiencea lot

The sprites are amazing. You also nailed the textures, the ground tiles look straight out of Super Mario World, great job!

Such a delightful little platformer - keep it up!
