Yeah the movement at the start felt weird both ways. I had it totally stopped and it felt like a bug. Extremely slow doesnt feel a lot better. The pickup thing I mentioned in another reply but its likely caused by being too close to them. Backup a bit and it will work most likely. Just ran out of time before I could nail down the problem. And there is a compass of sorts actually. I just never got it working in the UI the way I wanted. Look straight down. The arrow points to the closest enemy.

I'm trying to think of ways to signal "This isn't a glitch, you're stopped for narrative reasons". Maybe letterboxing? Like if the game starts and then you letterbox the camera, play the audio, and then unletterbox it when you want the player to start? I think that's a signpost people recognize. Maybe. I could swear I've seen this in games but I can't think of any examples to find on youtube. 

Seems familar to me as well. Either way probably a reasonable solution.
