The Kick: Overpowered?

The kick is, to my belief, one of the most underrated upgrades in the game. People mostly use it for the 'Get Up' perk, which allows you to counter Spidertron 5000 and 6000 extremely easily. I beg to differ.

The Kick. A very useful ability to have in your arsenal (no, not just for kicking people into sawblades).

The main thing that I utilize with the kick is its flip. The precise hitboxes in this game means you can flip away from arrows, dodge sword attacks and even get away from Spidertron shrapnel whilst kicking enemies into it themselves. The main thing about the flip is that you can do all of this - and more - with just one kick!

In addition to being able to dodge, you will also be knocking an enemy out. This will help your thinking, as you will not have to concentrate on as many robots. You can also knock enemies into saws, leaving for a natural kill. Another thing that is possible is knocking an enemy into another robot's attack.

Here's a quick example:

You are in a really bad situation in the Titanium tier. A Mark II jetpack bot is speeding towards you, an arrow is headed straight for you, and a Spidertron 6000 bomb is right in front of you. There is also a Mark IIII swordsman standing near the bomb, in front of you. You kick the Mark IIII swordsman, knocking him into the bomb. Mid-kick, a jetpack bot slides under you, failing a side cut. Under your body arch, an arrow directly hits him in the head, killing the jetpack bot. Then, the Mark IIII swordsman gets up and starts rolling away from the bomb - but it is too late. The bomb explodes, killing the Mark IIII swordsman. You then jetpack towards the Mark IIII archer, killing the remaining robot and ending the round.

You've done it.

You've cleared Round 49, your new personal best (without hacks).

So is the Kick overpowered?

Well, if you use it right - yes, indeed it is overpowered.4

[EDIT]

Forgot to mention - you can kick people in a 360 degree area around you. The kick always flips away from the enemy.

This can be used to peform some amazing acrobatics.

The hardest part of the Kick is sensing the sound around you, and I have learnt to know about where something is based on my ear through various games. Although that situation is very unlikely, it is very possible.

And you're right, the MK II Jetpack bot does usually do an overhead swing. But there is ways to exploit its AI, and you can do that quite easily.

To me, the Kick is not just a useful tool. It's a great method of dodging all kinds of stuff that would have otherwise hit you.

(For some reason, I just kick when I feel like it, too. This usually works for me, and is one of the reasons that I usually play quick and agile characters with good dodging abilities.)

The two issues I have with the kick are that it's very difficult to use, and that it forces you to stay basically in place for a significant period of time, something you NEVER want to do in this game. I can see it being circumstantially useful, but those events are, in my experience, few and far between. Not to mention the fact that if you mess it up (which is very easy to do), you're pretty much screwed.

That's why you need to learn it.

The Kick forces you to play by its rules, and its rules are very harsh.

The kick is really easy to be defeated with, but if used correctly, it can work out for you most of the time.

My highscore is Level 8 in endless mode, and that was using the kick.

i suck at this game, don't i

Would love to see some videos of you playing with the kick! Few people have really used it much. :)

I'm thinking of changing the kick so it gets easier to use. Perhaps add a standing kick and change the current double jump summersault to some more standard form of air kick. Could also be fun to make a powerful flying kick by combining it with the jetpack.

I haven't actually tried the kick ---> jetpack forward myself. Do you find that useful for enemies that get up quickly too?

I'd love to, but I don't have a recording software.

I think the kick is fine as it is. Remember, I'm no master, I've simply been here for a few days.

And the Jetpack Kick?

Imo find that out now

I've tested it.

It's impossible.

You can't jump with the jetpack, therefore you cannot double-jump to produce a kick.

If you want to record video (for this, or whatever else) I recommend using OBS, or Open Broadcaster Software. It's a little difficult to set up properly, but it's completely free, and you can easily find tutorials on it.

Okay, I'll try it out.

But how do you post the video afterwards?

(Just to be clear, I don't want to set up any other accounts)

Just upload the .mp4 file to any video uploading website. Unfortunately, I don't have much experience with uploading content, but I'd assume YouTube would be pretty simple to get started on (well, assuming you already have a YouTube account, which, if you're already associated with Google, isn't an issue).

Can OBS upload as a windows movie-file?

I'm not entirely sure what you mean. You can, if you want, run the file through Windows Movie Maker, though that considerably lowers the quality while taking a long time.

I want to convert it into GIF's, since that would take less time.

What you're looking for shouldn't be hard to find. I just Googled "mp4 to gif" and came up with a ton of results, like http://ezgif.com/video-to-gif, http://www.zamzar.com/convert/mp4-to-gif/, https://convertio.co/mp4-gif/, and more.

I use this a lot actually, it makes it so you can even get MK 3 swordsman before they get up.

Neat! That's a cool technique. :)

By the way, I haven't tested it, but what about kicking Spidertron legs? That would be awesome!

yeah, doesn't work right now, but would be really cool :)
