A cute little game, glad I could find my cubs!

As others have said, the double jump is awkward. It seems that to get the maximum height you need to quickly double press the button, as if you're adding together two separate jumps and they somewhat cancel out if they're not "in phase". Usually this would instead work by the second button press starting a whole new jump, with the initial acceleration resetting as if you were just leaving the ground again. If I'm guessing about your implementation correctly, I think you could just cancel the first jump and let the new jump take over.

I love the cute graphics! And when my little fox died! Heartbreak!

I guess given that, I’m glad there wasn’t any sound effects. I mean, what sound effect would you put to the cute fox dying? Oh, I don’t even want to go there! (But adding sound effects would still be beneficial for the game.)

The double jump was a bit finicky. Sometimes I could go sky high and others I didn’t double jump at all.

Still a cute game!

If you would check out or game and let us know what you thought, we’d really appreciate it!

really great for a first game... be really interested to see what more you can produce with a bit more experience!

Also really nice fox sprite!

Very cute game. Short and sweet. I liked the music and the environment art. Could be great with some fine-tuning of the controls and jump mechanics, and adding sound effects. Nice first game.

I love the premise and wish there was more to it!

That being said, I agree with DragonDevDhot that the controls could use some work, and I dunno how it was for others, but the jump to get to the double-jump was extremely finicky. I actually thought it wasn't possible until I came back and saw peoples comments about finishing the rest of the experience.

The art is fun, and the inclusion of the berries was a nice way to squeeze a little more gameplay out of the level you were able to put together. (I wish I'd done that in my submission !)

It's a very simple game, but it is a nice little experience, I hesitate to say this fully fits in the metroidvania category over just the platformer category, though. However as another comment said you do have some of the general principles of one included. The controls could've used a bit more work. The double-jump loses height way too fast as you ascend from your first jump, and the edges of terrain have this weird little hook. Other than that, it's a neat little game, bare-bones if anything.

My first opinion was that you don't know what a metroidvania is because of the simplicity of this game...and then I went to the left and immediately discovered a locked gate, along with a view of a reward for passing said gate (an incentive to explore and find the ability that will allow you to do so). It's clear that you understand the principles of a metroidvania, even though (if I had to guess) this is one of your first times making a game. Bonus points for making a surprisingly-enjoyable game!
