It should be called the "1-bit jam"

The name itself is ironic since you can use a colour palette that isn't in black or white, that's allowed! Literally it says in the rules that any two pair of colours are allowed and they banned the very elegant greyscaling which constitutes 256 shades.

I would've been interested if greyscaling was on the table because it's hard to make a good looking game with only 2 colours of just solid white + black or any other pair TBH.

Yes, I just got used to the name and it also became something of a brand. In general, I think I will not change it.

I also was confused to learn that black and white really means 1-bit.

As someone who sees only in gray scale, the idea that the black and white game jam is not black and white is also very confusing (and quite disappointing) to me.

Same here, man.

Oh hey, are you doing this gamejam too? :D

Yeah, I'm definitely giving it a try. So far the theme is giving me trouble. I think that the theme will end up being represented as "repetitive" in terms of gameplay. So I'm going to have to rely on implementing various mechanics to offset that repetitiveness.

Yeah I was struggling to come up with an idea that relates to the theme at first, but I think I've stumbled upon something I'm happy with (whether or not it ends up being fun is a different question). Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Haha same here. And I'm looking forward to what you're working on as well after playing your metroidvania entry.

you can always "shade" the game via dithering
