Upward released!

Hi everyone,

I have just released my first game 'Upward' on itch.io:

https://pocketfruit.itch.io/upward

Upward is a hard puzzle platformer where the only thing you can do is jump. Still, is this enough to climb a mountain full of deadly obstacles? The game relies very heavily on precise jumping and using the environment/other objects to traverse from screen to screen. The game was built with PICO-8 in 5 days and I aimed for a very old-school hardcore platforming/puzzler experience.

I would love to hear what you think and include your feedback into the game.

Cheers, Matt

Looks great, I added it to the fresh games section on the homepage.

Cool, thank you!

really cool concept, but it is too hard for me hahahah you should add a lvl screen ou hud with the lvl number, so we can say stuffs like "i got to level x" and compare how far a player can go. I think I did 9 or 10 lvls, i stopped 2 or 3 lvls after the first bullet lvl.

Nice idea and implementation, I like it.

I agree with the commet about having some level chooser: it would be nice to return to the game and start from the point you've finished at. Besides, it would be nice to track your overall progress.

Also, it would be good to have some calm, simple and unobtrusive background music performed it the same 8-bit / chiptune genre. I think that something like "Lode Runner" (NES) and "Nuts and Milk" (NES) have would fit "Upward". Appropriate music can make really great atmosphere in your game; moreover, it will continue playing in heads of people after playing the game (people will just associate game with its music).

And one more little remark: for less experienced players (like children or just casual players) it would be nice to have not so challenging levels at start: players feel more comfortable if game difficulty grows smoothly.
