I keep getting this error when attempting to upload a very simple game to test out some things. I am using unity and I followed this tutorial

The error I keep getting is:

There was a problem loading your project: No file provided to embed

no matter what I do it keeps telling me I did not upload a file to embed. I don't know why I am getting this error, I also can't find any other topics of people running into this issue. If I am just being dumb I apologize and I appreciate any help you can provide.

Hey all, itch.io admin here. Since so many people end up on this topic when they're having errors I've written a quick guide:

  1. It's very likely you've packaged your game file wrong:
    1. It must be an HTML5 game! You can not upload an .exe file and expect it to work. If you're using a game development tool it must have an HTML export option
    2. It must be a .zip file (no .rar, no .7z)
      1. You can also upload a plain .html file only if your project is fully contained in that single html file
  2. If your game extracts, but is having errors:
    1. All files needed by your game must be in the zip file
    2. make sure you're using relative paths when requesting other resources
    3. filenames are case sensitive. (HelloWorld.png is not the same as helloworld.png)
    4. if you request any files on other services, HTTPS must be used

There's a more detailed guide on our docs: https://itch.io/docs/creators/html5#common-pitfalls

Please check all of these things before asking for help. Thanks

Although this topic mentions server errors, that was an isolated incident that was fixed. Downtime is very rare, and it's much more likely you're running into one of the problems described above.

I am having same problem right now

Alright, maybe something is wrong with itch.io right now then. That would make me feel so much better.

Looks like problem with uploading project file. New project file is not saved. For my old project I can only use already uplaoaded files. New file is not saved. I cant even delete old files.

So I uploaded from dropbox and it worked that way.

I AM SORRY TRY UPLOADING IT FROM DROPBOX. GIVE ANOTHER COMMENT IF THIS DOES NOT HELP.

Sorry about the trouble, there was a site wide issue. It has been fixed now, tell us if you are still experiencing any problems. Thanks

I AM VERY SORRY I WILL TRY TO FIX IT.

I AM VERY SORRY I WILL TRY TO FIX IT.

I was able to fix my issue by uploading it from dropbox. Regular upload seems to be broken right now.

Hello, we had some partial downtime today that was preventing game uploads from being saved. The issue has been resolved and we've made some changes to make sure it can't happen again. Sorry for the trouble. Tell me if you are still experiencing any issues. Thanks

Hello, I'm currently encountering this issue today, can not neither work with upload file nor dropbox.

It seems to be just something that happens every once in a while due to maintenance. I would say just try again in 30min or so and if its still ongoing to contact an Admin.

I THINK IT IS STILL GOING ON IT WONT  LET ME PLAY

Admin

There has been no recent downtime. If you're having an issue playing something it's probably related to that game specifically. If you could share which game you're having an issue with I can take a look.

Thanks

It sounds like you've packaged the game wrong. I found this tutorial here that might be helpful: http://wiki.compilgames.net/doku.php/gdevelop5/publishing/html5_game_in_a_local_folder

Edit: I see you're using a 7zip file (7z). You must use zip (.zip), no other archive format is supported right now. Thanks

If you have the 7zip program installed, then when you're creating an archive file you can choose the file type. Zip should be one of the options.

Keep getting that problem even with dropbox ...

Admin

Are you sure you have an index.html file in the ZIP file you've uploaded? If you can send me to the project where you're having an issue i can take a closer look.

Im having this problem today :(

Admin

Which project is this for? This error can show up for a wide range of reasons. We haven't had any downtime in a while so it's more likely related to how you have configured your page or what you have uploaded.

Thanks for getting back to me. Just tried it again and got the same message. So basically I am creating a WEB GL app from Unity. Zipping up that folder and uploading the zip. I have a game on here already and tried to copy the same settings but sadly doesn't work. Here is a screenshot of my settings https://gyazo.com/9b1bef1ede1e08bda8bce668ca797387. The game is Infinite Drift. It does look different when I upload it compared to my other game as it has boxes I can tick next to the download which the other one doesn't. Ive tried checking the boxes but still doesn't work. Any help much appreciated.

Admin

Thanks for the info. You're getting that error because we only support extracting zip files for HTML5 games, not rar files. If you can upload a zip file of your game you should be good to go.

Ah ha! Thank you! Winzip!!! Used that last about 20 years ago! :)

i'm sorry to disturb but i'm having the same problem     here a screenshot of the zip file :

Admin(+1)

We only support ZIP files. RAR files are not supported. Compress your game again with ZIP and upload it.

Thanks

Thank you so much , I thought they were interchangeable.
