Really cool experience! I feel like the distorted audio actually sorta added to the harsh dream vibes.  The lever ended up being the only interactable for us and I'm not sure if that was on purpose, but over all it was a super unique game that we'd definitely wanna see more of.

I really enjoyed the concept of this game. The metaphor of a sinking ship was a really cool idea.

The voice acting was good, but a little hard to understand at some times. I think maybe if the rain was a tad quieter that would have helped.

The graphics could have been better, but I understand this was made in a short period of time. The main character's sprite and the telescope had a white pixelated outline, and the levels/wheels were blank and looked more like placeholders. However, I did like the ship graphics and how it rocked back and forth.

The game play is a little strange because none of the levers or wheels seem very realistic for how a real ship works in my opinion. But I do understand that this is a just a game, so maybe that doesn't matter.

Another note is that there is no save or pause. Between this and the graphics it felt a little unfinished, but again, it was made in a short amount of time.

Overall, I liked this game. The premise was really good, and I think it was done well.

Thanks! I think "a little unfinished" describes most of my projects, haha 😂

The "unrealistic" elements of the ship were to make the game feel more dreamlike ;D

Tried this game a few times - man, it's hard! By log 4 / 5 I easily get overwhelmed.

But you know, I think you've got something with this game!

I like the metaphor of "sinking" under the sea and in sadness, and the desperate battle of keeping afloat. The narration talking about monotony of life while you have to work so hard trying to keep up is a very fitting match.

The graphics are kinda cute! The way the player bobs up and down made me smile, and the sea waves look pretty cool, even if the instruments are kind of mismatched from the boat. Most particles are just colored squares, but I do like their placements and they give a good idea of the scenery.

Also, not watching your telescope sinks the ship apparently! But that's understandable for gameplay reasons, so don't worry.

Microphone quality could be improved - if the game depends on narration, you should be sure there's no problems understandin words. Something to think of for the future, I guess.

Overall, good entry!

Thank you for playing! Glad you enjoyed it!

I'm so glad you got the theme we were going for. We spent a good chunk of time working to intermix the theme and the gameplay, so I'm happy that came through!

The mismatching elements, like the telescope, were to give the the whole experience a more "dreamlike" feel ;)

The aesthetics were a point of pride in this project. Its the first time I ever wrote shader code (for the water), and the 2d sprites turned out surprisingly well.

Completely agree about the poor microphone quality, haha 😂

We tried implementing subtitles, but could not sync them to the audio, so we scrapped them. They were more distracting than helpful, unfortunately.

Unfortunately the audio was very distorted for me. I could tell there was voice over but I couldn't understand any of it. The Godot console gave this error:

WARNING: init_render_device: WASAPI: Unsupported number of channels: 1
     At: drivers/wasapi/audio_driver_wasapi.cpp:330

I'm assuming that voice over was critical to understanding why this character was on a boat and having to keep pushing a lever and turning a wheel! It was a bit tedious but might have been more enjoyable if I could understand what was going on.

Yours isn't the only Godot project in this jam to suffer from the distorted audio problem, if that's any consolation.

*Sigh*

You know, I originally used subtitles, but I couldn't get them to sync with the audio so I removed them. Oh well 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for playing regardless!

Hey, these things happen in the crunch that is a game jam! I'd love to see a post-jam update, because I really am curious wtf is going on with this boat. ;-)

Ahh I tried to download the zip but it seems to be empty?

Developer

Sorry about that, I have no idea what happened :/
I can't change the files during the voting period, but here's an alternate download link:
