  • Personally, I didn't enjoyed it too much. For a casual player that don't want to read the whole description page before playing, the mechanics were nothing intuitive. That being said, the scope and execution are both to be praised. Other than the inclusion of randomness in the initial canvas, it didn't feel a roguelike.

May be a great game for a certain niche.

  • This game is actually building/simulation game, not a roguelike. You can't loose. There are no enemies. It's just the matter of more or less efficient placement of leafs, a bit of luck with location of fountain. Many features of the game are not described in the documentation, some are probably not quite features, but bugs. There are some very nice details, like horizontal branches bending depending on length. I think by adding some upgrades and equipment and some insects both above and under ground this game could be turned into something more roguelikeish.

Successful or Incomplete?

Success

Interesting game! I included it in my 7DRL Challenge compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)

Developer

Thanks for trying it out! I think your experience was probably the norm for most people; improving the instructions and ease of play is a priority. Cheers!

I love this game so much, i tried to do so many things, like automate everything and just press " . ". Soon I really read the features to the end and I saw THE FRUIT a new challenge to beat and more fun! 12/10 Stars!

Developer

Thanks, I'm glad you like it!

this game is fun :) but there really needs to be some kind of delete function or something that just lets the cell die. Oh and also a way to save the game or create an account that save your progress(i once accidentally clicked CTRL-r instead of SHIFT-t   xD   )

Developer

Yes for sure, deleting/modifying cells is a highly requested feature. I've been thinking about save/load! Thanks for playing.

it works, but everytime I push any of the controls (wasd etc) my browser just opens the search function (normally done with the ctrl+f keys).

Developer(+1)

hmm, do you have any browser extensions that might doing that?

A few extensions, but I disabled all of them and had the same problem after reloading the page. That was with Firefox v. 59.0.2 (32bit).

I just found the solution myself (kinda by accident). toolbar -> tools (drop down) -> Options -> scroll down to 'Browsing' settings.

Had it ticked on to search for text when I started typing. for some reason the function didn't recognize keystokes as game input. (i've never had the problem on other games so never knew there was this option.)

Thanks for checking in though.

Oh wow, haven't seen that before, glad you found it. I wonder if there's a way to override that on my side...

I can't seem to run the game i keep getting the error "get extension of null"

Developer

Sorry to hear that. Which browser/OS are you using? You might not have WebGL enabled.

I can't seem to run the game on chrome. No adblocker and scripts allowed

Developer

sorry to hear that! Can you post a screenshot of what you see? Did you play on itch.io or go through the hellochar.com URL?

managed to fix it, apparently my chrome continued to block cookies even when I told it to allow them all, I had to manually enable all of them.

also I love it. I really like the music
