Cool idea to make a game where you want to get caught! Very nice art, music, and gameplay! The scoring system is also a great way to give it replay value.

I found it a little odd that the bombs explode after a certain amount of time, not a certain amount of turns, just since everything else is turn-based. I also was scrambling away so I wouldn’t get caught in the explosion, before I realized bombs don’t hurt you :). That could be a cool mechanic though if you wanted to expand on this!

Developer

I found myself doing the same thing when playtesting it! I think it could totally be explained better for sure, but ultimately time constraints really limited us. I think it would be cool to have bombs be like bomberman, exploding after 3 moves or so with a blast radius. Thank you for playing and giving feedback! I'm glad you had fun.

Developer

The bomb mechanic is where everyone just kind of went all over the place in how they understood it. I really should have added another tutorial page for them in hindsight, but hey what can you do?

And THANK you for acknowledging how we used the theme, I was super proud of what Steve and I came up with in regard to that. We struggled to make that fit narratively, but we made it work!

Enjoyed this a lot. I think the difficulty is just right; you can complete most levels after a few tries. Really nice game! Good job! :)
My only nitpick is that I found the text a bit hard to read on the instructions screen.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, glad you enjoyed it! In regard to the text on the screen, I tried to fit within the limited palette (the enemies being the exception) as a stylistic choice, but I can see how it might cause some issues. Thanks for playing!

Developer

The instructions were the final thing we did for the game, so at that point we just wanted to get it all over with lol. I'm glad you had a fun time, thank you for playing & giving feedback!

You're game was pretty fun to play.  I love the gameplay, simple, and fun. puzzles are not so easy, and that cool.  i just had a little trouble understanding how teleporters work. Your game stay pretty cool to play. Good Job for your entry !

Developer

Yeah, in the back of my mind I was nervous the teleporters wouldn't be understood, but I'm glad they were able to be figured out eventually!

I tried to design each level based on a new way to use the mechanics with an increase in difficulty, hopefully they were fun!

Developer

I found myself wondering if the teleporter graphics were a little too similar, but ultimately I didn't really get to change them up. I'm glad you enjoyed the game, thank you for playing!

Wow. So much effort toward polish for a game jam. Like Deylz said, I'm glad you took a bit more time to get this to the state that it's in. I agree with the others that it's would've been better to introduce mechanics through gameplay rather than a text dump but honestly I skipped the tutorial and the mechanics all became self explanatory pretty quickly. Overall, very well done. I'm very impressed!

Developer(+1)

Ayyy thank you! Polish is the name of the game for me. :)

I'm glad the mechanics were self explanatory enough for a theoretical lack of tutorial, but I threw one in there in case that wasn't the case.

Thanks for playing!

Developer

Thanks for playing! A little bit of extra time cleaning up stuff goes a long way! I agree with introducing mechanics through gameplay as too, we were mostly just limited by time. Thanks for the feedback,  we really appreciate it!

I'm glad you took a little bit time extra to deliver this complete and quite polished experience.

Sure the tutorial could have been incorporated more smoothly, but this is a level of polish I simply don't expect from a gamejam, especially not one that is this tight on the dev-time. On the contrary I'm glad you made the effort to implement a tutorial.

I really like your art style, but I wished the teleporters would have been better distinguishable.

Overall I think you delivered a nice and clever game.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! It's always my goal to make every game I develop as polished as I can (within reason of course), so it means a ton when someone acknowledges this. Trust me, this game wouldn't be as polished as it is had I not gotten Steve on board for the artwork. Thanks for playing and for your kind words!

Developer(+1)

I definitely agree that the tutorial could be smoother, as well as the teleporters being more distinguishable. Really just came down to time with those, we were already overboard by a lot. I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks for playing!

Nice entry! Sure your development time was over, but the art and music are great and the puzzles are good too. In a more flushed out version it would probably be easier for the player to have each mechanic introduced separately instead of all at once in the text dump at the beginning. Still fun to play though! I averaged 2 stars across the board.

Developer

Yeah, I agree that the levels could be fleshed out more if we decide to take the game further. It was loads of fun to make, thanks for playing!

Developer

I absolutely agree that the tutorial shouldn't be a text dump at the beginning, but I didn't want to add more time to the clock than I had already, so I opted for the quick way out. Thanks for your feedback! We really value it! And thanks for playing! It means the world.
