Hello everyone! Thank you to the 50+ people who joined --- this was such a wonderful surprise and I really look forward to everyone's submissions.

Some people already have neat drafts and ideas percolating in their mind. They are mad with power and I fear they may be witches in disguise. However, if you *would* like to share your sketches, thoughts, drafts, please use this thread so others can celebrate it with you!

I am working on a game called Deep Space Balloon Race, it's about Deep Space Balloon Racing.

I am doing all of the layout in LaTeX and I ma hoping read and look like a regular local history book. My goal is that if this were sat on a shelf next to all the other local history books someone might pick it up and believe it were a real book. Now I am under no illusion that that would actually happen as the subject matter is so far fetched, but it would not look out of place.

I have already written a chapter on the history of how the space faring balloon was invented and am now working on a short history of deep space balloon racing.

For the curious this is what my WIP looks like, I will add a few pictures in due course.

Torn between adding tables inline with the text or putting them all in an appendix at the end.

...and now I'm really intrigued about the history deep space balloon racing. I mean, aside from how the heck does it work, I'm dying to know why balloons in the first place.

I've never actually seen LaTeX layout work in practice, so thank you for this screenshot, too.

I have gone a little over the top on the lore to be honest but it has been rally fun writing it. There a family feud and everything.

I am considering adding an appendix with a list of texts published by the Institut de recherche sur l'exploration interstellaire, an entirely invented institute founded by the creator of interstellar balloon travel.

This (edit: a cultish-looking wikipedian holding the wikimedia logo as if to ask “have you heard the good news?”) was the first thing i saw when i got my image, but i didn’t feel good about using the logos in the cover itself, so this version didn’t make it in:

Anyway, i hope the project goes so way to show some person here that wikipedia has become more than a user/university-student-generated encyclopedia resource in the lest 5 years. I also hope my use of the cover image captures the diversity gap that wikipedia suffers from – currently, 89% of editors identify as White. This month, to address gaps in Asian representation on Wikipedia, Robyn Arville of wikipidia and the Asian American Journalists Association is hosting a training course and edit blitz at https://medium.com/@robynarville/wikiasianheritage-celebrating-standing-in-solidarity-with-people-of-asian-descent-worldwide-75a5bd42dacf

From the above link:

In May, the Wikimedia Foundation and the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) will co-host a virtual discussion about how to improve accurate coverage of Asian-American communities across the information landscape. More details are to come about the event. If you would like to attend, please complete this form, or monitor this blog post for updates.

Working with the AAJA and Wiki Education, we will also kick off a training in June for journalists to learn how to contribute to Wikipedia, adding and improving the representation of AAPI communities on the site.

Wikipedia volunteers will host an edit-a-thon with the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center to close gaps on Wikipedia about Asian American literature and art.

As part of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the Wikimedia Foundation will be hosting several events and activities for staff to participate in, share space, and remain in solidarity with one another.

We are calling on people in journalism, academia, research, and other fields to bring more visibility to the stories of AAPI people, reinforcing that secondary sources are required to fill gaps in our knowledge projects.

Attend our event later this month. More details are to come about the event. If you would like to attend, please complete this form, or monitor this blog post for updates.

Thanks for this, and I really appreciate your thought into linking it to advocacies that matter to you. I visited the link to the event; was really pleasantly surprised to know that the Chief Talent and Culture Officer was from the Philippines, too!

In lighter news, beholding this image of a white man doing his best to look mysterious while holding the Wikimedia logo has made my day significantly feel more whimsical.

I'm having a lot of fun with my cover. I've got some pretty neat stuff to show off.

Starting with the Cover:

Then here are some tables:

Really all that's left to do is to create a few more tables, including one that converts a d20 to give Magic 8-Ball answers, so that way the player won't have to go out and buy their own Magic 8-Ball. (The 8-Ball is a core mechanic that determines among other things, whether or not the client should invest in a stock and whether that stock rises or falls)

Some fun design notes!
1) The cover contains an homage to both "The Wolf of Wall Street" and "American Psycho" - can you figure out how?
2) The tables are created using libre office's spread sheets. Libre office is a free open source alternative to Microsoft Word, which employs similarly scummy subscription based models for their software. You can get it here yourself: https://www.libreoffice.org/

Never used this platform before, joined when a friend shared the post momotoes made on twitter. To be honest, my experience is only in writing and narratives. I was at first confused by my prompt and at a loss as to what to write about. It was a person caught in an indoor flood. But then I noticed that the water was much too clear to be water from a natural flood. Then I noticed that there were four goldfish in the flood, looking no worse for wear. So that made me think that this event was all a part of their plan...

It's called The Memory of Goldfish and it's in the submissions tab. I hope you read it, hope you enjoy it, but I was happy just to have the chance to contribute to a cool idea for a project. Fuck Adobe. Fuck capitalism in general.

So, I'm working on a cabbage  🥬 game I call 20/20 Prosperity. I say game, but some might call it a recipe for Kimchi. Either way, I'm sharing my enjoyment for food and the influences on me and my personality!

Anyways, here are some pictures I painted!

I am still working hard on my entry, but I don't think there is any way I am going to get this finished by the time the jam ends :(

No worries ---- really, it matters more that you use the tools and make something that gives you joy rather than forcing yourself to an arbitrary deadline.

If you want I will doodle you a "made for #fuckadobe" ribbon you can put on your project page
