Theme!

Hi,

We're mulling over different ideas for the theme of the jam, and wanted to get some feedback meantime.

Although we don't want to discourage anyone from taking part in the jam purely for fun, we quite like the idea of setting a theme that could promote a good cause too. Partly to do some wider good, but also in terms of promoting everyone's games - if we have dozens of amazing games on a 'newsworthy' topic, we'd obviously be trying to get mainstream press coverage of such an accomplishment, and in turn bring more attention onto the jam and the games.

But we don't want anything too explicitly "worthy" or explicit, it needs to be something that can be understood to be supportive of something good, but can also be interpreted more broadly. As an example, a theme of "Hang in there" could be understood to encourage persistence, but it also means swinging / climbing mechanics would apply.

Open to suggestions around folk staying safe during Covid, or diversity/inclusion, or any other positive messages that our little game jam could help the world with :)

Freedom. It's what we all yearn for right now.

As long as it's adequately open to interpretation,  I am personally happy with whatever. "Freedom" and "hang in there" and "awakening" among the other suggestions here so far have been really great examples in my opinion.

"Freedom" seems like an interesting theme and a lot of interpretation could be drawn from it

How about "responsibility"?
