Hi all,

My name is Rui and, guess what... this is my first game Jam :)

Platform
I'll be using TIC-80, as I've begun using it a couple of days ago, and it has been really fun!

Concept
The game is a 2D arena-style, where you'll play as a dream spirit (whatever that is) and you have to save a sleeping little boy from all the nightmares coming at him... literally.

Gameplay
Yet to be decided...

(day two)

I've decided to ditch gravity for the dream spirit, because... well... physics do not apply to other-realmish creatures :P
Added an animation function and played a bit with nightmares' (skulls...) sprites, and the spirit sprites.
Corrected the nightmares' trajectory (from the edge of the screen to the bed), which was bogus on the first implementation.
Added a "dreamy room" sprite, which caused the spirit to have it's color changed.
To stop the player to constantly hover close to the sleeping boy, I'm adding a wake-up gauge, which will be incremented as the spirit (or each nightmare) approaches the boy.
Also, failed attempt at music :(

Thank you so much for the feedback J.
I'm actually not really happy with the art for the bed/boy... let's see what I can do to make it better, if anything at all.

Gameplay
I've just noticed that the gameplay was not yet decided on my previous devlog entry.
So, as an head's up, the nightmares will creepily  float to the sleeping boy, and as they get near, the wake up gauge will increase.
The dream spirit's job is to get near enough the nightmares and smite them with a burst of... something (could be like an E.M.P., but it sort of falls outside the theme :P ). Also, if the dream spirit gets too near to the boy, it will increase the wake up gauge.
As it is, the dream spirit does not die, but I might be adding some life parameter, that get's decreased if the spirit actually touches a nightmare - not really convinced that this will benefit the gameplay, and actually think it will not...

Anyway, I haven't had much time for the game these last two days, with work and all, but here's a GIF with the latest status of the game
(sorry about the mouse pointer :P)

BTW, that green floor is getting on my nerves :P

Whoa this is looking good so far! :0

The game mechanics for this are simple, but really effective. The little spirit is so cute!

This is neat! That green floor does seem out of place though haha
