What are your plans?

Hey everyone! This is a space where people can discuss what sort of project they're planning to make. You can also see if others would be interested in collaborating, either by teaming up on the same project or by making projects that complement/combine with others' projects (such as making a new format of play for someone else's game, or detailing the exact rules of the CCG within someone else's CCG-based-anime RPG).

very interesting jam. i dont think i can come up with a functional game, but worms ccg inspires me to make a gonzo random card generator of some kind.

Host

I love that idea! I'm a huge fan of everything random generator, so when Keyforge came out my brain sort of exploded lol. Even if the cards produced don't work at all as a whole, it's still fun just to imagine the awesome synergies that… maybe exist, somewhere… 😜

Submitted(+1)

for sure! if there are no rules… the cards are the rules!

Just learned about this jam, really excited. As a big fan/collector of vintage ccg's I am thinking about making a complete new way to play with existing cards from a dead ccg.

Oh wow, what a cool concept!! Yes, a game that can use *any* CCG cards... One big reason I wanted to do this was because the consumable nature of many CCGs leave me sadly staring at my now outdated cards... Please breathe life back into these beauties and show them they're still loved! ❤

Thank you. Made the project..narrowed it down to 4 Sci-Fi themed dead CCG's, which I'll be mixing up to make a new game :D

And removed the project...my first idea just was not working for me. Got a better idea now, much simpler and should work easier with more CCG cards!

I saw Catalyst and was inspired to make an expansion for it.

When I was little I had a poster listing all the cards from (the first set of) the now-defunct Harry Potter Trading Card Game. I didn't have a copy of the rules, or any of the cards, or indeed any friends who'd ever heard of it. I thought it was the best thing ever.

Never heard of Catalyst before joining this jam. Your project sounds fun! I'll be checking out Catalyst and your expansion.

Good luck!

That is amazing!!! To this day I still love browsing wikis and BoardGameGeek images for card games I've never played and in all likelihood never will, just to love the cards themselves and the idea of extracting a character or phenomenon into some sort of mechanized bundle of rules and numbers.
I'm definitely interested in exploring what you've done with what Catalyst provides/implies! 👀 You could also submit to #NotAGameJam2020, where Natalie first submitted Catalyst. You might find interest in another Catalyst "expansion," "The Forgotten Village" by Colton Flick.

I've had so many CCG ideas bouncing around in my head for YEARS, and I'm hoping this jam will be the thing that finally motivates me to follow through with one!

My current plan is a variation on an idea I had a while ago:  A CCG where each card actually has three smaller card images on it, and when you play a card you choose which of those three to resolve. If anyone else likes that core idea, please don't hesitate to try something like that in your game! I cannot claim to own such a simple concept, and your version would undoubtedly be way different than mine anyway!!

Mine will be built from the ground up to support solo play, and also allow for 2 players head-to-head. The theme is gonna be futuristic with stuff like mechs, tanks, etc. Thinking of making all the common and uncommon cards available as a pay-what-you-want PDF, with the rare cards as a low-cost PDF, and hopefully also offer a printed version for those who don't want to print their own cards at home. (You can get packs of random cards printed at The Game Crafter so that's where I will probably offer the printed version!)

Sounds like a fantastic idea! I'd get me pack from TGC for sure

Host

Wow, this sounds great!! I love when cards can be used in multiple ways, and this takes it to the max! [80's guitar riff, explosion]

I also really like the experimentation in how to cost and provide content. That was a big inspiration for me going into this: How can we get and give the CCG experience without having to pay rent to our random foil dealers every week? Making all non-rares PWYW is super intriguing... Just make sure you're aware of any content rights that TGC might impose. But I'm excited to see where you take this!

I deleted my previous project, it was already getting too convoluted. Thought up a much simpler game last night and worked it out today.

Check my submission: 3x3 CCG Battle

Lol, sometimes convoluted is what makes it fun! Also, who said these games (or game-like creations) need to be playable? 😉 But if you would rather not submit multiple projects or don't feel comfortable sharing the original, you're of course more than welcome to submitting whatever you'd like.

I finally sat down and started work on my game after coming up with the concept at the beginning of the jam and then doing Nothing.

The concept is a CCG where your to-do list is the deck and each task is a card. I'm still working out the mechanics, but you would write down your task on an index card, write the estimated time it takes to complete it, and then the actual time; cards with an estimated time close to the actual time have a higher attack, and cards that take longer have a higher defense.

Three variants for play: one where you only play with task-cards that are completed, one where you play with a mix of task-cards, but you have to complete the task within 6-12 hours of playing it (or some other time limit agreed on by the players), and one where you only play with task-cards that are not completed, trade decks, and when you play a card, your opponent has to do their task on the card–and vice-versa.

This is my *sixth* to-do list game concept, but the first that involves playing against others, so it's a new and interesting challenge.

This sounds awesome!! I love the idea of blending real-life responsibilities with game-incentivized strategy — especially doing so in a way where acting according to the game actually encourages thoughtful consideration of the tasks you feed in.

I hope to see more of this!
