Hi folks,

I'm in the process of rating a game from the jam, and I'm a little stuck on some of the categories. The game is a text based game, and as such, there aren't really any graphics or audio. It seems harsh to rate both of these categories as 1 star, since the overall experience of the game was positive, and as a text based game, any graphical or audio elements would likely be detrimental to the intended effect of the game.

I rated highly in the other categories, so the score would work out average when totalled, I just wondered what others would do in this situation?

IMO, you could work in audio even if the game is text based.

But for the graphics: did you think the text was pleasing to look at?  Was the layout nicely designed? Or was it just plain default text.

That's how I would think.

Thanks for the advice! I was looking into the tools they used to make the game, and it doesn't look like audio was an option, but there were definitely ways to customise the styles of the game, so that's something to factor in.

For our judging criteria, if there's anything that doesn't make sense in context, we use the closest thing. So for text games, visuals are more like imagery/style/tone and audio is something like how well  it reads. There aren't exact analogues but I'd definitely say go for the closest related thing.

I hadn't considered that, that makes a lot of sense, thanks!

I just vote three stars most of the time in these cases.
