If you harbored bias against China and rejected its territorial sovereignty from the very beginning, please don’t wait until Chinese translators have poured their time and energy into localization to post comments like 'we might disagree on the ownership of a certain territory' on Chinese social media. This hurts both the dedicated translators and the Chinese players who enjoyed your game—especially when you admitted to having foreseen this exact outcome.

girl we are playing a yandere erotic game can you pls take these poltical bs away

(+2)(-10)

Enjoy your game if you want, but don't silence players who care about their country's sovereignty and translators' labor. Fact-checking is not 'bs'.

(+5)(-1)

Was Chang wrong? After all, the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa Islands still belong to Vietnam, cry about it

(-6)

This only highlights how despicable you truly are. Taking the localization team’s hard work for granted, then turning around to backstab them with a smug 'you fools got duped' attitude. Stealing the fruits of someone's labor while gloating about it isn't the flex you think it is.

(+2)(-1)

I think this is a matter of separating public and private interests. If the author paid for the translation, your side had the right to refuse from the start. But if you didn't refuse and still accepted the job, then the fault lies with you. And now you're talking about ideological issues, shouldn't your side have investigated this first? Besides, Truong Sa and Hoang Sa have belonged to Vietnam for a long time. If your country doesn't support it, are we obligated to follow? Accept it, China isn't the center of the world.

(+1)(-1)

You are completely twisting the facts.

First, the Chinese translation was 100% voluntary and unpaid. The creator did NOT pay a single cent, yet directly benefited from the localization team's free labor and the traffic brought by Chinese players.

Second, it was the creator who first brought political issues into the open by making double-dealing and provocative statements on social media after enjoying the free localization. When you accept someone's free help and then turn around to disrespect them and challenge their national sovereignty, withdrawing support is the most justified response.

Respect is mutual. If a creator cannot show basic respect to the volunteers and players who supported her, she shouldn't expect unconditional tolerance in return.

(+1)

girl, this game is free for everyone so what do u want ????

(+1)

Perhaps she wants us to be "grateful" to them for translating the game into Chinese?

(-1)

A game being free does not give a developer a hall pass to exploit unpaid labor or disrespect the country of the very people who supported them. The Chinese translators offered their work completely for free, fan creators and cosplayers built traffic and enthusiasm for free, and the community gave goodwill for free. A free price tag doesn't excuse backstabbing the volunteers who helped you grow.

(+1)

Aw hell nah, wtf are you even talking about? The game is literally free for everyone. Nobody's forcing you to play it. Did the gov put a gun to your head and make you play or smth? Y'all play the game for free and then turn around and attack the dev. Ungrateful af.

(-1)

Before jumping in to comment, please actually figure out what happened. Nobody put a gun to the developer's head to authorize the Chinese translation, either. In fact, the author personally communicated with the translator about the localized content, knowing full well from the start that they were Chinese.

They silently reaped all the popularity and traffic generated by the translator's hard work, only to turn around and pull a political stunt after taking all the benefits. Calling players "ungrateful" when it is the developer who exploited free labor and then backstabbed the community is pure hypocrisy.

(+1)

If that’s really the issue, then the first people you should be complaining to are the ones who brought the game to China and translated it in the first place. They knew exactly what was in the game, and still chose to translate it so you guys could play it.

You literally just had to play the game. So if the translators already knew all of this and still released the translation for you, yet you’re still whining about it, that’s just dumb as hell.

Your entire argument collapses on a completely false assumption.

The political controversy was never inside the game. The game itself contains no political content, which is why the volunteer translators dedicated their time to translate it in the first place. No one knows in advance that someone they helped is going to pull out a knife and hurt them.

The issue arose because the developer chose to broadcast hostile political statements on external social media after receiving and releasing the completed translation.

Blaming the volunteer translators for the developer's post-release betrayal is pure victim-blaming. They didn't "know all of this"—their free labor was exploited by a hypocritical author. Get your basic facts straight before calling others "dumb."

(+3)

You’re literally attacking a citizen of another country for using their own country’s map and making statements that don’t even violate their own laws. Lmao, bro, I called you dumb for a reason — and I still stand by it.

She may not have broken her own country's laws, but Xiaohongshu is a Chinese platform.

When a foreign citizen chooses to register, operate, and build an audience on a Chinese platform, they are legally and ethically bound to respect the laws and territorial sovereignty of that country. You don't get to use a country's localized platform to gain traffic while openly disrespecting its sovereignty.

Ignorance of basic platform compliance and cross-border respect is nothing to brag about.

Replying to Cloudi6 below as direct reply is disabled:

Sure, any developer is free to hold their own political stance, but there is a clear line between personal belief and cross-border disrespect. When a developer chooses to register, operate, and build an audience on a country's localized social platform, they are bound to respect that country's laws and territorial sovereignty. You don't get to use a host platform to gain traffic and then openly attack their core national interests on that very platform. That isn't "standing by her country"—that is bringing hostility directly into the host community's doorstep.

Let's talk about "free." Yes, the game is free, but the translator's labor was free, the traffic brought by fan creators was free, and the local community's support was free. In the indie game industry, exposure, traffic, and community momentum are the most valuable assets. A "free" price tag does not grant a developer immunity to violate a country's sovereignty, nor does it erase the fact that she used unpaid labor to build her game's reputation.

Furthermore, your timeline logic makes no sense. A person’s national stance doesn't magically pop into existence overnight. She didn’t suddenly "realize" her political stance only after the volunteer spent countless hours translating the game and driving traffic to it. Before the Chinese translation, this game had barely 10 comments. The author was enthusiastically replying to Chinese users when she needed localization—only to pull a political stunt after securing that initial audience and traffic.

Saying "she might delete the game anyway when it's outdated" just proves my point: after reaping all the free benefits from Chinese volunteers, she can simply wipe the slate clean and walk away. That isn't innocence—it is pure exploitation and hypocrisy.

Isn't it given that the dev would stand by her country's stance? You keep saying her accepting free translation is exploitation of the uninformed people but didn't that support stop the moment she announced her stance? It's a recent incident so she wouldn't have thought of it when she first came in contact with the translator. If anything she didn't remain silent just to continue receiving support? She made the game free to everyone so even with the added translation and popularity from your side she didn't get money. Do you think a small indie developer wants more discussion filled with hatred? Do you want the translation removed from the game? If you're concerned about its growing popularity then 1. the support that came with the translation stopped, and current discussions come from other languages 2. the game is free and might be deleted when the dev thinks it's outdated anyways

(+2)(-1)

Wow, that's ridiculous. Hoang Sa and Truong Sa have long been claimed by Vietnam since 1853. Do you have any evidence to say they belong to China?🫣 Oh, I guess not, because you probably don't even fully understand international history.

Even international university lecturers acknowledge that. How utterly lacking in international knowledge are you?

(+2)(-1)

When China illegally occupied the eastern islands of the Hoang Sa (April 1956), used force to seize the western islands of the Hoang Sa(January 1974), and some reefs in the Truong Sa (March 1988 and January 1995), the Vietnamese government in each period strongly condemned and resolutely protested. That's proof that China "OCCUPS" those two islands. Honestly, you think you've owned them since ancient times, but you can't specify when or for how long. That's just making things up and trying to claim them as your own. How pathetic

(+1)

You lecture me about "history," yet your own historical knowledge is a complete joke. Let's look at the actual timeline:

1. Before your country even existed as a state: As early as the Han Dynasty (2nd century BC), Chinese people had already discovered, named, and lived on the South China Sea islands. During this entire period, the northern part of what you now call Vietnam was literally a province/county directly governed by Chinese dynasties. How can a state claim "ancient sovereignty" over islands where Chinese people were already living before that state even came into existence?

2. The "Vietnam" name itself: The name "Vietnam" (Việt Nam) didn't even exist until 1804, when it was officially granted by Emperor Jiaqing of China's Qing Dynasty.

3. Your official betrayal in modern history: In 1958, North Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Van Dong sent an official diplomatic note to China explicitly recognizing China's sovereignty over the Paracel (Xisha) and Spratly (Nansha) Islands. Official Vietnamese geography textbooks up until 1974 clearly marked them as Chinese territory. You only flip-flopped and backstabbed after receiving tens of billions in Chinese aid and unifying your country.

From taking massive historical aid and then tearing up official diplomatic promises, to this game creator accepting free localization from Chinese volunteers and then turning around to provoke players—backstabbing after getting what you want seems to be a habit for you. Learn your own white-and-black history before trying to lecture others.

(+2)

The historical presence or passage of a nation's maritime and island territories this does not equate to the establishment of national sovereignty, because sovereignty requires a state that continuously, peacefully, and openly manages, exploits, and exercises power.

According to official historical documents and research, China during the Han Dynasty never administered, established sovereignty over, or had any historical basis to claim to have occupied or managed the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa Islands.

Ancient Chinese historical records and maps from the Han Dynasty through subsequent feudal dynasties contain no records or administrative maps confirming sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa Islands.

Vietnam was the first state in history to legally possess, manage, exploit, and exercise de facto sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa Islands từ Centuries ago, through naval forces such as the Hoang Sa Fleet and the Bac Hai Fleet under the Nguyen Dynasty and previous dynasties.

Honestly, it is not my responsibility to give you a free history lesson or fill in the blanks your country's school textbooks conveniently erased.

My original point was simple: disrespecting unpaid Chinese volunteers and provoking players after benefiting from their free labor is pure hypocrisy. Yet, you chose to derail the discussion into history, hoping to deflect from your bad faith.

If you actually cared about history and international law, you wouldn't ignore legal estoppel, Prime Minister Pham Van Dong’s official 1958 diplomatic note recognizing China's sovereignty, or your own pre-1974 official maps and geography textbooks. Citing vague "lecturers" doesn't change signed diplomatic archives or international law precedents.

I have zero interest in wasting more time arguing over a sanitized school curriculum. Believe whatever fairy tales you need to feel better, but facts remain facts. I’m done here.

YOU IGNORANT, UNKNOWN FOOL! HAHA, DOESN'T YOUR COUNTRY HAVE ANY ISLANDS THAT YOU HAVE TO GO AND LICK OTHER COUNTRIES?

It’s hilarious how you preach that "history is a science," yet your entire response reads like a copy-pasted, heavily sanitized Wikipedia summary, completely crumbling the moment real historical archives and international law are brought up.

Let’s lay out the legal and historic realities for anyone watching:

 1. The "Hoang Sa Fleet" Myth: Your precious "Hoang Sa Fleet" was merely a local Nguyen Dynasty group salvaging shipwreck debris and collecting sea produce. Under international law, informal salvage activities do not equate to state sovereignty. Meanwhile, China's official administration dates back centuries earlier—as recorded in the Song Dynasty text Wujing Zongyao (《武经总要》), Chinese naval forces were already conducting routine patrols over the Paracel Islands.

 2. Cairo Declaration & 1946 Reclaiming: You quoted the Cairo Declaration while conveniently cutting out key context. Following WWII, in 1946, China officially dispatched warships—including the Taiping (太平) and Yongxing (永兴)—to legally reclaim, garrison, and set up sovereignty markers on both the Paracel and Spratly Islands under the Cairo and Potsdam Declarations. This legal takeover was fully recognized by Allied powers at the time.

 3. Legal Estoppel & Signed Archives: In 1958, Prime Minister Pham Van Dong sent an official diplomatic note explicitly recognizing China's sovereignty. Under international law (such as the 1931 Eastern Greenland precedent), a state cannot legally retract signed diplomatic commitments. No amount of copy-pasting or emotional breakdown overrides signed state archives.

 4. The Core Issue: My original point was always about your community enjoying free labor from Chinese volunteers while backstabbing players. You derailed this into politics because you couldn't defend that hypocrisy.

Spamming the comment section with unhinged screaming and copy-pasted Wikipedia paragraphs only proves you have zero logical arguments left. I strongly suggest taking a breather, as your emotional state seems severely unhinged right now. I have no obligation to educate someone who treats a sanitized curriculum as divine truth. Believe whatever fairy tales keep you sane—the rest of the world relies on facts. I’m done here.

Which newspaper did you get that quote from??? Source: trust me bro

In 1943, the global context was undergoing complex developments, and World War II had entered its most brutal phase. To consider several important world issues related to territorial borders, representatives from Great Britain, the United States, and China met in Cairo (Egypt) on November 27, 1943, in what history calls the Conference.

This conference concluded with a joint statement, which included the following passage:“Japan must be removed from all Pacific islands that it has seized or occupied since the start of World War I in 1914 And all the territories that Japan had seized from China, such as Manchuria, Taiwan, and Penghu, would be returned to the Republic of China.”. Thus, China's territory has been clearly demarcated, and there is no connection whatsoever to the sovereignty of the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa Islands.

Furthermore, the Cairo Declaration did not mention the sovereignty of any nation over the Paracel and Spratly Islands Because these two archipelagos have been under the sovereignty of the Vietnamese State for a long time, at least since the 17th centur There is historical evidence proving that sovereignty belongs to the State of Vietnam. Next, in 1945, as World War II gradually drew to a close, the world had many issues to address with the victorious powers, such as territorial disputes and the division of spheres of influence.

You say [..have no obligation to educate someone who treats a sanitized curriculum as divine truth. Believe whatever fairy tales keep you sane—the rest of the world relies on facts...]? Are you talking about yourself?🤔🤔🤔🤔

What is this??? We were taught history, and history is a science, Science means it is objective, factual, and unique; it cannot be contradicted. Stop twisting the truth, if you don't even have the concept of history to offer such nonsense.

LISTEN UP: THE HOANG SA ARCHIPELAGO AND TRUONG SA BELONG TO VIETNAM, NOT A SINGLE PART CAN BE MISSING.WELCOME HOME IS VIETNAMESE, CHANG NGUYEN IS VIETNAMESE. IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, GET OUT, NO ONE INVITED YOU CRAZY GUYS

Hey everyone, there's a thief barking nonsense here!

Oh my gosh, thank you for answering on my behalf. I haven't read all of your comments yet, but thanks in advance! 🤣🤣🤣

Have a good day.

You are right, let's keep this polite. I agree that our textbooks are different, as every country has its own national narrative to maintain. To be honest, I didn't want to discuss political issues too much at first either, as arguing about them here is ultimately endless.

Originally, all we wanted was to approach the game with goodwill and enjoy it peacefully. However, the core issue is that the author publicly provoked our political stance on social media (including Chinese platforms). Doing this after accepting the completed translation from Chinese volunteers is highly disrespectful and hypocritical.

As for whether I will continue playing, let me borrow a concept from Marxist literary theory: literature and art belong to social ideology. A creator's stance, perspective, and values will consciously or unconsciously permeate their work. Whether explicit or implicit, a work inevitably carries the author's cognition and attitude towards the world.

Therefore, I will not play a game whose creator openly disrespects my country's sovereignty and dignity.

Have a good day to you too.
