Do you create "press/media kits" for your projects?

A Press Kit (or media kit) is something provided to journalists and other people who make content (so this could include video game bloggers and youtubers, etc.).

The point of the press kit is to make it easier for these people to talk about your project and also focus on things that you as the creator feel are important. It can include high def images, clips, a written overview, and qoutes about the game. Really anything that would make it easier for someone to make a blog or video about your game.

Press or Media kits are really common among professional advertising and marketing. Do people on itch.io make them? Would you put together a Press Kit if you knew it would help you project get more attention?

"People on itch.io" ranges from hobbyist teenagers to professional full-time indie devs.

The utility of a press kit varies rather a lot, depending on if you actually get any coverage. For example, I do not anticipate any media outlets caring about my project, so why would I spend time making a press kit?

For someone who has some amount of klout, a marketable project, and ambitions to earn a living doing this, things definitely look different. But those people are a small minority among itch.io developers.

I'm aware that itchi.io takes all kinds of developers and creatives—that's why it's such a great place to find new games. However, it seems like a common problem creators have is a lack of attention to their projects. It doesn't matter how good your game is, if you don't know how to market yourself, no one will see your work.

I have tried to spotlight games on my YouTube channel in the past (it fell off when I got busy with my irl job, but I hope to start it up again soon) and I often thought how nice it would be if I had just a little more info about the game and maybe some assets from the game that would make video editing easier on my end (i.e. it would be nice to have a Press Kit for these games).

That's why I made my post here. Because I recognize that developers are frequently asking for more visibility, and it would be easier for people to make content about their projects if they provided just a few resources.

Also, in case there is confusion, Im talking about a very minimal type of press kit. Like, a blurb about what the game is, if the game has any future developments planned, and some pngs of the characters from the game. Nothing big. Literally just a .zip file that should take 10 minutes to whip up

I think its the journalists job. But if i was making a living with games I'd probably make presskits.
