How does your game fit either (or both) genres?
Both Metroidvania and Magical Girl genre
Chosen theme(s) and relevant explanations
I wanted to try to include all 6 themes: Unity - You have to play as all 3 characters and use their different abilities to finish the game. Unreal - Their abilities are called the Powers of the Unreal. Construct - The python was the one who constructed the labyrinth (probably a stretch XD ) Rust - The labyrinth underground and the final boss were originally supposed to be made from rusty metal, though the colors chosen don't make it obvious. Python - The final boss is a python. Pearl - The magical girl team is called the Pearl Squad, including Pearl White, Pearl Black, and Pearl Gold.

Pretty neat demo! I absolutely loved the designs of the three magical girls. Switching between them was fun, although I feel like Pearl Gold didn't really get much use other than opening doors.
Jumping was a bit hard to control due to the wall jump/cling activating even without pressing any directional inputs, as long as you were facing the wall, and also due to how far each tap of left/right sent you.
The boss was a simple but effective showcase of the character switching system. I had some trouble until I realized he only dealt damage while passing through the center of the room, so I could always just stay behind his head and never get hit. Getting reset all the way to the beginning on death was still a bit annoying, though.
Regardless, not a bad prototype at all!
Thank you so so much! That was exactly what we were going for, that the boss could only be defeated by switching between characters, going with the *unity* theme. The movement does need some work, that is a good point about the wall jump. We originally had plans for Pearl Gold to do more, like *construct* platforms and defeat certain types of enemies, but I ran out of time to design the level around that.
Neat designs for the protagonists! melee attack and jumping/air movement need more work, but you have a cool switching mechanic with plenty of potential
Thank you very much! We also thought the switching mechanic was a pretty fun idea
That was cool. I believe I finished the whole game (There was a wall as soon as I opened the first gold door, so I’m not really sure).
You did a good job with the character designs. I had no trouble distinguishing them, and all their abilities are unique. I would have liked to see more ways for each ability, forcing you to use one or the other. As it stood, the second one is the best since it can take care of any enemy in a line.
However, the one thing I think you should work on is the movement. The fact you can’t walkjump while running into a wall, and the inability for small persition in horizontal or vertical made platforming quite disorienting for me. I felt like I was constantly using a dash ability everywhere.
Otherwise, you seem to have solid enemy AI, platforming, and abilities. It looks like a good prototype. Maybe more screenshake and squash/stretch would have also helped enhance the experience.
Thank you very much! I'm happy the characters were easy to distinguish from each other. I will next time work on the movement and add more ways to use each ability.
Sorry, the gold door was supposed to be an extra room to collect coins, but I didn't have time to add them. Near the beginning is another gold door that leads to the final battle with the python boss
Ah… I did not see that golden door. Sorry.
I found a really cool speedrun tech where if you rapidly switch between left and right directions on the ground it launches you at maximum velocity
That was a glitch I kept trying to fix XD. Thank you for playing!
Clearly needed more time to cook, but the foundation is there. Keep it up!
Thank you so much! I will!
