How Are You Feeling About the Results and the Jam Overall?

The results are officially up! Our game got 102nd place. For me personally, this is a great improvement over my past game jams, so I’m pretty happy with it!

This jam was overall a very enjoyable experience for me! My goal was to rate 200 games, yet I only managed to rate 176. But through this, I managed to play many wonderful and amazing games! It’s always so much fun to see how everyone else interpreted the theme and how they achieved that.

Also, this wasn’t  my first time participating in a game jam, but it was my first time working with a team, and that was a lot of fun as well. I couldn’t have made our submission as great as it is without them!

How does everyone else feel about their experience?

as this is my first game jam (and also game), #350 overall was a good starting point. because of one core aspect of the game that i didnt have time to polish (platforming), many people couldnt enjoy the gameplay as much. i also think that there is a bit of bias in my ratings but oh well im happy with what i got (could be worse).

I remember playing your game! I would say that it was very impressive and innovative for your first game, so good job with that! And 350 out of around 1500 games is still really good, especially for your first game jam.

tysm :)

This is also my first game jam. I am very upset with the ratings, even though the feedback was generally good. It was a fun experience, and I hope to participate in something like this again in the future. It was an honor to play your games

I’m sorry that you’re not happy with the ranking you got, but be proud that you made a game at all! Making games is really hard, and many don’t even get this far. I remember playing your game and think it was pretty good for a first game jam game. Take this as a learning experience, and you’ll have improved for your next jam :D

Thank you for your support, I appreciate it. I tried your game, it was great, and I think it deserved better than that. I will continue to develop games because I love it, not for competitions or anything like that. But I hope to do better in the next game jam. Thank you

Aww, thank you! My game did a lot better than all my previous game jam games, so I’m at happy about that. Good luck on your next game!!

I actually did better in some stuff than I thought and a lot worse in other regards. I don't think I will continue with the game I made. Kinda disheartening, but yet again it was a first attempt at a game. I think I was a lot more generous in my ratings than others.

Be proud that you were able to submit a game at all! I remember your game had some pretty good art in it, and from what you had of the story, it seemed fairly interesting. Even if you don’t continue with your game, you can at least take it as a learning experience for future games

We got a #1 place in art and overall #50 - and this is so awesome!

I've rated 89 games - and many of them were really so much fun to play!:) it makes us getting so high feel even more like a huge achievement:)

And - thanks so much for everybody who played our game:)

I also played and really enjoyed your game! It was absolutely stunning. Congratulations on placing #1 in visuals and #50 overall!! :D

Well, it's a really nice improvement for me compared to previous game jams. Though the rating weren't really what I expected, but I'm fine with it and I'm glad people enjoyed my game, the ratings and the feedback confirmed that.

And at the end of the day, it's not really the ratings that matter, it's the process, being able to finish a game in a week, put it out there and people actually enjoying it.

For me the first few days we're tough cos I was demotivated and out of ideas, but I kept pushing on and I'm really happy with the end result cos people enjoyed the game.

See y'all in August, good luck 🤞

Thats a great perspective you have and it’s great that you pushed through your demotivation to make a game. I remember playing and enjoying your game. And you’re right about the ratings. Out of around 1500 games, it’s very difficult to be ranked very high, so we shouldn’t get too caught up over it. I’ll also be participating in the August jam, so good luck to you too!

Thanks, see you then

This was my first time joining the Brackeys Game Jam and it was a really fun experience.

I ranked around #416 out of 1400 games, so I'm honestly happy with that result.

I also got a lot of helpful feedback and comments which helped me understand what I can improve in my future games.

Congrats to everyone who participated and especially the winners. There were so many creative ideas!

I remember playing your game and having a bit of trouble with it. But the ideas were there and the visuals were very cool! Congrats on getting #416 overall!!

I'm glad your game did so well! Really enjoyed it and I'm happy other people did too. This was my first game jam working solo, placed 695 overall which I'm not upset about. My game had bugs and I'm still learning so I was really surprised to even be top 700. I honestly feel like I was harder on my game then a lot of people were. Still it was a good experince overall, happy for you guys!

We all tend to be harder on ourselves  then we should! That's why game jams like this are important so we can get feedback! Its good that you're happy with your result, and good luck with your next game!! And thank you :D

Thank you, best of luck to you too!

Hey, I was pretty close to your goal of 200 ratings. Mine currently stands at 196, which I later realized is the #2 most rated entry as well. The final rank ended up at #82 (top 6%). It’s definitely a big improvement compared to my previous jam where I worked solo and placed around the top 30%.

That said, I was a bit surprised that the final ranking ended up lower than I expected, so my feelings about the result are a bit mixed. I’m glad about the improvement, but part of me still feels it could have been higher (sorry, I can’t help it). Still, this was only my second game jam, and I learned quite a bit through experimentation.

One thing that surprised me was that quite a bit of the feedback mentioned the control layout being uncomfortable, even though the game already had a rebind option in the menu. It made me realize that many players probably jump straight into the game without checking the options or even the page description first. Getting feedback about something that’s already implemented can be a little rough, though the other feedback was still helpful and constructive.

I think I might take a short break for a while and recharge before deciding what to do next. I’m also considering polishing the game further and maybe adding more content, like another boss and level.

Congrats on almost getting 200 ratings on your game! I also noticed it was quickly climbing to the very top of the most rated. That's a huge achievement. For your 2nd game jam, top 6% is AMAZING and a huge improvement from 30%, so you should be very proud! Most games don't make it that high, and most games don't even make it to 50 ratings. With about 1500 games, its nearly impossible to make it into the top 10 in any category, so don't feel bad.

Most jam submissions don't have that kind of customization, and options are usually nonexistent or very minimal, so that might be why people didn't check. Also, most people might just look  in the page description for the controls before playing. That could also be why. I guess you could just take that critique as non-applicable. I personally didn't have any issue with the controls and thought your game was overall pretty good! Although my point still stands about improving the story, if you do end up going back to the game!

Also, how many games did you rate? It seemed like every game I went to rate, you had already rated it, lol. I always saw that you had commented just a few minutes or a few hours before I managed to leave my rating and comment on that same game.

Submitted

Thanks for the encouragement! I rated 240+ games in total.

I usually try to leave feedback before submitting a rating and keep it as relevant to each game as possible, so the process is a bit slower. It also helps developers know who has already rated their game. I update my post from time to time to encourage more ratings (especially for people who need them), and I try to rate back whenever I can.

I have to say that I really liked the lore and puzzles in your game. The mysterious atmosphere and the build-up to the truth you created were very well done.

240+ games?! I’m in awe! You had to have played about 17 games per day to reach that. I have no idea how you managed to do that as I started getting burnt out when I had reached my 150th game rated, which is why I couldn’t get to 200. But 240+ games is really impressive!

And thank you for your compliments! I always strive to create an interesting and compelling story and characters for all my games. There are some things story-wise I could’ve done better, but I’m happy with the result :D

hello hello, as first game i ever actually finish and first game jam, i am pretty happy with my rating (overall 514 and theme which i focused on is 364) just wished i had time to play and rate more games but life got in the way.  the feedback was unexpected plus :)

Congrats on your first finished game!! Positive feedback is always a plus! I don't think I had a chance to play your game, but I'm sure it was great! Good luck on your next game!

Congrats on your place in the rankings! I got 119th place, which I am quite proud of. Out of all the game jams I participated in, this being the 8th, this is the first time I am in the top ten percent of games, which is awesome. It's great to see that I am getting better with each game jam. I am impressed that I got that good of a rank while working solo.

The experience was great. I did a better job planning things out to avoid crunching at the very end (although I still had to do that lol). I had to slightly downsize my previous game jam project due to poor planning, so I am glad I corrected that this time. All the feedback that I got was also very informative and nice. It's great to hear that people liked my game so much. I only got to rank 34 games, but it was fun playing some of them in a call with friends to get their opinions. Everyone else did great!

See you all next Brackeys game jam!

Thank you, and congrats on getting top 10%! Thats no easy feat! And I agree that good planning is absolutely necessary for game jams! It’s always the first thing I do. Good luck in the next Brackey’s game jam! :D

Hey hey! We got #597 overall but #35 on visuals (which we still cannot believe happened holy shit). This was my second game jam and first time ever being a game lead and programming lead, I didn't realize things can spiral out of control last minute. Also kinda underestimated the difficulty that comes with narrative-based games :( We also did not have much experience with 2D isometric games and wanted the jam to be sort of a test bed to try out new techniques. And there were quite a few bugs by the end but didn't have enough time to fix them all.  We are planning on expanding this idea (since people loved it and think there's good potential) and adding more to it so looking forward to that! Will definitely be incorporating all the feedback we received :)

Hey! I remember playing your game and really liking the story and art so far! Congrats on #35 on visuals and good luck on expanding your game! :D

It was really cool, we finished 80 and received a lot of good comments and feedback, so we decided to release the game on Steam! We will post the link on the page once Steam has finished reviewing the request for those who are interested.

Congrats on getting top 80 and for your upcoming Steam release! Thats a huge accomplishment!

Here is our Steam link. For now, the page doesn't look great, but that's something we'll obviously improve.
