Just a general feel of things and how they work.

So, I have been keeping some interesting stories/games in the pipeline using Renpy. I was browsing what other people usually upload and gosh dang! Some of the free ones are chef's kiss- and made me more motivated in the best way. Like adding in more graphics, music and such.

But of course, I'm a very newbie (insert blank, bec I too don't know what I am)! How receptive is the general public if I take the help of AI to create images? Or even voice acting (of course, I will make sure they sound natural!)? There's no way I can afford anything expensive- as a broke college student, and that's why I was looking for ya'lls opinions.

Thanks everyone! And I look forward to exploring more here.

Hey, look around at the games you play or that come out from some people where things seem polished. They are almost never made with visible AI Art or Voice Acting. Well written text is better than not real voice actors.

I recommend that you try to do everything yourself; it will turn out much better, and the process will be much more enjoyable.  😊

Yep, I'm already 50% done- it takes time, but I just enjoy the different processes- like it's my baby haha!

I dont understand

It might change in 5 to 10 years when the babies who are being brought up with ipads in their hands - already seeing and using AI to make stuff - grow up and become the newer generation of game devs and ‘normal’ changes. But as it is now, generally audiences are both sincerely - and also projecting their fears of the diminishing place for their talents as artists and as such are - against AI use in games for any creative category. I think maybe you already know this and were hoping for some validation that there are a large amount of people who don’t mind? XD The number who are indoctrinated and don’t care will probably grow in the future. IMO, AI art when it’s obvious - or is the core of the imagary - is pretty bad. Voice acting too. Actually, one of the people who use this account worked on a side project as a voice actor for a dev because their game got poor reception in regards to the AI voice acting in it. In general, I do also wonder whether Itch audiences at least or streamers want voice acting in general in their games at all or would rather read aloud with their own flare. Either way, they don’t want too much being said.

Take your time and try doing as much as you can yourself. You’ll pick up a lot along the way, and the little touches really make a difference. By the end, it’ll feel way more yours and it’s pretty satisfying to see it all come together.

ai can be helpful for checking code but when it comes to art, ai will always be worse than your own work no matter your skill level. ai can only copy from other artists, if you learn to draw it yourself not only will you be able to make more choices with your characters, your work will actually be your own. voice acting is super cool but not always necessary. you could always just add some free to use music instead.

take that inspiration you got from other games and channel it into something cool, thats something valuable that ai cant do!!! that is part of the fun of game development i think. taking all the stuff u thought was cool and making it your own way, if the ai does it for you its not really as fun yk?
