Future Themes for Jam Suggestion Thread Sticky

This thread is for suggestions of future styles you'd like to see in this jam if it is hosted again. I am looking for game soundtracks that have a fairly unique style. My knowledge of game soundtracks is pretty limited so feel free to suggest soundtracks you like! A mix of games with simpler music theory (like Yume Nikki) and complex music theory (like Zelda TOTK) would be nice to have

Some examples of potential future themes:

  • Zelda BOTW and TOTK
  • Nier: Automata
  • FURI
  • Borderlands 3
  • DOOM
  • Ace Attorney
  • Street Fighter III
  • Silent Hill
  • Earthbound
  • Yume nikki
  • Omori
  • Skyrim
  • Cuphead
  • Minecraft
  • Persona
  • OFF
  • Journey

Edit:

Lots of good themes have been suggested! I have a list of some holes that I would like to be filled

  • Brass-heavy soundtracks (That doesn't have much other orchestral instruments, aside from typically a sax or clarinet. But emphasis on the brass)
  • March-heavy soundtracks (think 2/4 time signatures, prominent snare drumming) (Wait, just had an idea for patapon)
  • Botanica (If this even exists in games, I am not really sure)
  • Traditional Folk genres (that doesn't use fusion often)
  • DnB/Jungle soundtracks (Ps2 might be a good place for this)

I think it’d be cool to hear music similar to Ibb & Obb, Kettel’s the composer.

I'll add it to the list! I listened to a little bit and I think it is a very nice soundtrack

I think those are some good choices! Those are perfect for some of the electronic subgenre holes I had in the list too

May I suggest Rain World? I think the soundtrack sounds really unique with the mix of digital instruments and junk audio.

I will add this to this list! I have never played this game but I saw my friend play a bit and I remember how unique the soundtrack was and how it fit the gameplay really well, so I feel like it would make a great addition to the list!

I know I'm cutting it close, but Jusant and Outer Wilds have great soundtracks.

I will check them out tomorrow morning (It is late where I live currently)! And no worries about the time of post, suggestions close at the end of the voting period!

What about Roblox games like Pressure, Deepwoken, DOORS, or some other common Roblox game? Those have some pretty good soundtracks.

I think I might group for genre with Roblox themes. From what I've seen, there seems to be a pretty big demand for Roblox horror music from indie devs and I think it could be a good theme for musicians to practice horror/thriller soundtracks but also it could make a good collaborative non-commercial event for creating music that can be used by game devs (but it will be opt-in and not a requirement for the jam)

Sounds like my type of music! I love making Dark Ambience/Deathdream-Style music. Especially for the Minecraft Mod The Betweenlands...

Appreciate you taking suggestions!

I've been playing a ton of  Halo Infinite and No Man's Sky lately and would like to add their soundtracks to the list!

I've listened to a bit of each and I think they would make great editions! I like Halo's Infinite cinematic style soundtrack and I think it would make a nice edition, I also really like strings to be honest so it is nice to have a more string-heavy soundtrack. For No Man's Sky, I only really knew that is was a sci-fi exploration game that feels infinite but I was not at all expecting the experimental rock influence, I think it would fit perfect! I was really looking to put more rock-influenced soundtracks on the list. I looked a bit more into No Man's Sky soundtrack and apparently it is a bit like minimalist composition too (don't know the term for more complex music that uses a large variety of phrases in a non-fixed structure),  so that could be pretty interesting for a theme!

The Bungie Halo games have some sick music themes that would be great to try and replicate.

Also the Age of Empires II OST is amazing, both the DLC's and the base game. Just like the spinoff Age of Mytologhy.

However, when I noticed you placed Doom I went nuts, wanna try it out!!!

I went ahead an listened to both, not too much of Bungie Halo games (will need to research more), but I will go ahead and add it to the list.  I've also listened to AoEII's soundtrack (but just the original 1999 one, I'll have to research more about DLC and definitive edition), and It seems like a good choice for a pre/early-2000 PC game midi soundtracks (with a nice amount of harpsichord). Also, for future themes I will be using a random wheel for selection, but DOOM should have a pretty high weight (because of its unique genre mostly; music genres that are similar to each latest jam will be temporarily excluded/lowered in weight in the selection process, so there's a good chance it will be selected)

Thought that I'd share that what 'd be looking foreward to trying to imtate music from other than what I've suggested already, I think 'd enjoy Borderlands, Silent Hill, Skyrim, & Minecraft. I'd love to make insane beats lke that in Borderlands, Silent Hill is a Horror Game, & I LOVE making scary music, Skyrim has probably some of the best Orchestral music I've ever heard, & I already like tryng to make fanmade music tracks for Minecraft Mods (Like The Betweenlands, The Abyss: Chapter 2, & So On). It'd be interesting to maybe see some other things too, though, I have to admit.
