Make whatever you want to make, but Western devs seriously need to stop calling things Otome that are not Otome. The Otome genre is FxM relationships, period, point blank. It'd be like referring to something as Yuri when it features a male protagonist...

Genres exist for a reason. If people just arbitrarily decide words mean whatever they feel like, what's the point? It sure doesn't help with classifying things properly so people can find what they're looking for. Feel free to throw whatever "ist" or "phobic" word at me you want, btw. I've heard it all before; it wasn't true then, and isn't true now.

it's not that deep bro, no need to be so negative on a happy post.

Psst, things aren't in a vacuum, genres have overlap. Things can be multiple things at once~ there's Japanese otome with female LIs.
Like being a creature collector or dungeon crawler doesn't stop a game from also being an RPG/JRPG.
If you wanna go be a whiny pissbaby, do it elsewhere. o7

Maybe longer than my kids have been alive but as someone 35+ years old? I doubt longer than I have(I've been playing the genre since the more known English term was reverse dating sim to boot). And yes, Chou no Doku(AKA Butterfly's Poison) has a female LI, there's also been multiple(sadly mostly gone because app/server shut down) Japanese mobile otome that had a mix of female and male LIs. You don't like the vernacular used on the English side of the fandom? Then go stay out of the overall English otome-spaces because even the otome reddit is a-okay with stuff like this using the term, same with vndb. Or go hang out with the worst of the worst like the self-righteous tween LADS girlies on TikTok. o7

You can disagree with it, but be civilized in the comments.
