Game description
Patternats is a pattern-matching puzzle-roguelike.

Your job is to find patterns in waves upon waves of randomness, guarding the world against the insatiable appetite of entropy.

Theme interpretation
Following the roguelike tradition, patternats is all about surviving waves (in this case, of entropy)!

Super chill game! I love the simplicity of the core gameplay as well as sound design and music. Great job!

I really liked this game, spent so much time playing!

It was a process to figure things out, but I got to it. Although, I realized I can switch any cross with any circle, not only the ones next to each other embarrassingly long into the game haha. The only thing I missed is kind of a dictionary for the words used to explain power-ups.

Having the horizontal XXL line and the no gravity was sooo satisfying.

A chilled-out puzzle roguelike with a really vibey soundtrack. Really enjoyed this one :)

I ended up maxing into pyramid, making each wave a hunt to find how I could build a pyramid out of my limited moves. Really fun to try to max out your build and get those sweet one-turn wins B)

If I had any critique, it would be that it deffo needs a visual tutorial the first time you play it. The text at the beginning basically washed over me so I ended up figuring out how the game worked as I went. I recognise that that's a pretty low-priority task though when you're doing a game jam.

All told, a fantastic entry, great job!

Thanks! Good stuff to make the pyramid work out!

100% agree on the tutorial point (should have been higher priority than some other bits that I did get round to.)

Seems like a cool game, but I can't figure out how to play it / what the goal is? Am I supposed to make a specific pattern? Would love an example or tutorial in the game, the written pop up wasn't quite enough. Seems well made otherwise!

Ah, yes, it isn't very clear and really did need a tutorial (sorry!)

The idea is to make patterns from your collection (shown on the right panel), in the grid by swapping tiles (and later other actions too). To swap tiles you click twice on different tiles on the grid. You can see how many patterns and points you've made by hovering over the grid or progress bar. Then you submit by clicking the tick. The aim is to burn the progress bar down to zero within 3 submits. Then you get to choose an additional pattern, action or bonus and try again with a larger target.

But agree this isn't obvious, tutorial needed!
