Nice job with the music & Sound FX!

It's an interesting game and pretty fun, but I think I'd prefer the custom level design to be an option, not a requirement.  Especially since the game is over pretty quickly.  I probably spent more time drawing then I did jumping! 😅

Attaching a screenshot of a weird bug I encountered... When I jumped up to the top of the screen, close to the ceiling, the game completely glitched and turned into this other screen.  I had to reload the browser window.  (the game was ok after that)

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Sorry about the bug, I have no idea what might have caused that, I fixed a bunch of issues when people were testing but never came across this one. But yeah I get the feeling but I wanted to lean into more what made the game unique than just another platformer if you know what I mean. 2D platformers are a dime a dozen in these sorts of jams, so to make something that stands out to people it needs to have some kind of hook.

The mechanics of the game are very unique and also fun! I really like the sounds and graphics of the game good job! The only problem i had was that I you dont really know when a ghost other than that very good game! Can you also give feedback for my game?

This is a really fun game. The platform building mechanic is a cool mechanic to implement into a jam game. I thought it was going to be confusing switching between the 2 modes, but it was actually really simple once you learned the controls. It was fun to build out platforms to jump to just in time to escape an enemy. Nice job!

Developer

Thank you I am glad you found the mode switching easy enough to manage! That was something I worried about too!

Very sick mechanic. Being able to suddenly place down and remove platforms almost feels like it'd be a Stand power of a JJBA character.

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked it and thank you! :)

This game is pretty fun!

I liked that you created everything yourself. That was very unique looking graphics and style!

Overall it has a nice vibe to it with platform building mechanics.

The only feedback I have is, I wish I would know when a ghost would appear. Maybe a hint.

Developer

Thank you for playing my game, that's good feedback btw. RN the ghosts appear on a timer of every 5 seconds of game-time (not counting time in the editor), but a visual indicator would have been nice I agree. Really enjoyed your game too, the scene building was one of the best ones I have seen so far in the jam!

WOW. I've never played a game like this. The mechanic of editing and making your own platformers is huge, and I am a big fan of platform editors (played stuff like Mario Maker). Especially with the visuals, movement, and those ghosts attacking you. This game has huge potential if you could add levels and stuff with different enemies.

Great game, and I'd like to see you work on more like this!

Thank you so much for playing the game, did you rate the game btw? I see 4 ratings on my game that seems exactly the same as before I saw your comment. No idea if I am going mad but seemed kind of strange. I'll give yours a try tomorrow when I am awake! 💛

This was a really creative idea. I loved the mechanic of the editor. Especially in a fast paced-game. The jump controls felt REALLY good. Good air control. Nice springiness. Gravity was really good. I'm jealous of your jump controls.

I found the placement to be a bit odd for myself, as I tried to place platforms 2 wide and sometimes they would overlap or be a space apart. Although come to think of it I never tried the click and drag method.

Overall really solid concept.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for giving it a try, yes the platform system was designed for click and drag. If you just click or tap they just spawn on the grid and it can be a bit imperfect with rounding and yes they can overlap, I allowed that as I had playtester friends drawing goofy art with the platforms that was helpful for.

I'm really happy with the platformer controller too, it was written from scratch in ruby, was my first time making a platformer in a framework and not having help of an engine like Godot or Construct.

Thank you so much for playing and I wish you luck in the jam too 🙏

I love Ruby! Are you using DragonRuby?

Developer(+1)

Yes this game was made with DragonRuby! I documented a lot of the dev process for it on their discord!

Very cool. I would recommend you do a Post Mortem here. Maybe copy and paste what you posted here. I do a post mortem here after every game jam and get 100 to 200 views on each one. So a lot of people read them.

This game is wayyy better than mine lol hope you get 1st place

Developer

Thank you! I am sure your game is good tho and I will try it later on when I have the chance. I've got over 8 years experience of doing jams now and close to 50 jams completed.

Very juicy game! Good idea and great implementation.

Thank you so much for playing! 💛

Cool platformer! I like the concept of surviving in arenas while creating the optimal path — the visuals are colorful and really pleasant, I genuinely enjoyed it!

It’s a pity that the optimal “build-for-yourself” strategy at the end of a jump is discovered rather quickly.

Developer

Thank you for playing!

Yes it was hard to balance making the game very hardcore/locked down/strict from a few conflicting views I had of folks finding the game either way too difficult or way too easy. There was rarely a middle ground. I think if I significantly restricted access to the editor or put it on a timer it would have hurt the struggling players more than the ones that were good. Probably the best solution would have been to have a limit on platforms placed and restore the amount you can place by a certain amount of playtime/distance traveled rather than the system rn where you can delete one and instantly replace it somewhere else. But I'd rather people find the game a bit too easy/cheeseable than absolutely struggle with it.
