Really cool visual novel
I like the setting, it has good world building with the whole special mech rigs to travel the harsh conditions.
the artwork in general is pretty neat as well, music is quite chill and fits the vibe of the story well.
I really liked that it involves you a bit more than usual for a visual novel with frequent choices and some resources you have to pay attention to.
The only real issue i had is that it is quite short, but considering the jam’s time that’s perfectly understandable that you didn’t have time to make more :)
Overall great base you can build upon to make a fuller game, well done team ^^
Thank you for your encouraging and thoughtful comment! We appreciate the feedback :)
Very nice!
I like that it's not a visual novel, where you just have to read, but can also make decisions.
The overall art and aesthetic were nice, the music fits.
Unfortunately, the game just stopped working after my decision in the third town (which was kinda mentioned in the description) which is really unfortunate.
The UI flow needs more love - at first I was baffled about the "Left Option" and "Right Option" buttons. And that some villager dialog has more boxes to proceed before you can press any other button (except for Quit which I then hit...). Also, we only ever saw the water resource, not the money thing. Which made it difficult to choose, whether to pay in full or not.
But I see the potential in this one! Just some tweeks and the game is pretty solid.
Yeah the game breaking is... embarrassing LOL but that's where our team got to before the deadline. Lessons learned for next time haha. I definitely agree about the UI design and flow, things we didn't put enough upfront consideration & appreciation for. Appreciate your time, thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!
Pretty ambitious for a game jam! It's tricky with visual novels because I feel most people won't fully get into them unless they trust the game will be complete and the story will have a full narrative arc - both which seem to be pretty difficult to do with the deadline.
I played for a bit and I loved the choose your own adventure feel, deciding where to go and making moral choices. I can't only imagine the amount of text and how was it was written so props for that! Pretty cool visual setting and character art - made me want to go back to my Citizen Sleeper playthrough!
One minor note is that the transition text between scenes was tiny and it may be very hard to read for some people. I know it's probably not intended, jam features!
Hey thanks for the feedback! Our team definitely would have loved to polish the UI work, accessibility of the game text size, and scene transitions, which we perhaps should have put more emphasis on considering this was a visual novel... haha! Hooking people with the narrative was definitely the hardest sell but MechJam was a fun way to experiment as a first project for our team. Thanks for your time!
