I loved pokemon ranger as a kid, so this is a really nice hommage. Sadly I could only experience it on a trackpad, which makes this way harder than you intended. But I did get actually angry that my cheese was being stolen, so your game did what it was supposed to do!
Edit: saw there was an upgrade station, tried to go back and lock in, but trackpad too hard man. I'll try again later with a mouse :p (you need a mouse to catch a mouse)
Once I figured out I could just hold down the mouse button and frantically circle my cursor around the mice to get multiple loops down instead of letting go and starting a new one each time, the gameplay began to feel much smoother. Having the mice "break" the loop when they cross it was a really clever way to add difficulty.
Oh my god so cute! Really makes you feel that frantic emotion of catching the rats. It's clear that a lot of playtesting and consideration was put into the gameplay, and that reflects very well on the general experience. The sound effects are also nice, I especially like the ones pertaining to loop drawing. No notes, very nice stuff.
Fantastic work! The art is amazingly charming and polished, the music is well-chosen, and I love the little snap sound and animation when a loop fails. The gameplay is easy to grasp but provides compelling challenge, the difficulty scaling feels fair and satisfying, and the meta-progression aspect was a pleasant surprise. The pacing fell a little short in subsequent playthroughs, as with even a couple upgrades the first several rounds became quite trivial, leading me to wish for some way to cause multiple waves to attack at once to advance faster. Overall, a charming and fun little game with a satisfying level of polish and balance.
Yay, thank you so much for playing! We're happy about the level of simplicity we were able to achieve, and the amount of variation we were able to get out of it. I agree on the balancing, though -- it's kind of strange, since with the (minimal amount of) playtesting we did, we noticed that it was extremely difficult for some and extremely straightforward for others. It's interesting to think of ways to balance this, given that fine motor control varies. Might be much better on a tablet. :)
Sound effects are on point. Hearing what kind of mouse is coming, the little squeaks that the mice do, the little snap when they break your loop, so nice.
The drawing of loops is... perfect. You don't need to make a perfect circle, you can perfectly see where you are drawing, superb.
After losing the first time, I honestly didn't understand that "Continue" meant going to the shop, don't know why. Maybe I'm a little dumb.
Artwork is really nice, clean and cute. And I'm not the type of person that typically find mice cute.
Aw thanks!! We spent a lot of time just trying to get the looping to feel right -- we went from having the player click down every single time the loop broke, to having it be seamless and just allow the user to draw as much as they want without needing to lift up the mouse.
You're definitely not wrong about the upgrade screen, though! We noticed that as we playtested once during development -- we just had a tiny bit of sunk cost in the current design that we wanted to keep grinding out new features. Thanks for the feedback! :D
Silly fun game. Had a blast but couldnt figure out how to access store, I have seen the art with upgrades and read the description but still dont know how can you upgrade D:. But still very fun
Ah yes, this is something we noticed a little late into development! The white box that says "Upgrade" is actually a button, but it's pretty easy to miss. :')
But thanks for playing, we really appreciate the feedback! Hearing this is a good reinforcer for how we should pay attention to UIs in the future ^^
Love the music and art, The concept is great too just a tad bit hard, the tiny 2 health mouse are a menace !
Thanks for playing, Josh! The difficulty scaling was definitely difficult to work with, it's really true what they say about developers finding their own games way too easy. Once we had someone new playtest, we really realized how difficult the game truly was, especially when you hadn't been looping mice for several hours already.
Thanks for the comment! :)
Very silly game with nice artwork its a little hard tho Good job! be sure to review my game :D
