This game hasn’t been indexed since October 2024 since it doesn’t meet our indexing criteria: https://itch.io/docs/creators/getting-indexed#why-isnt-my-project-showing-up

The developers are using a “Download” button as a link to Steam. The developer took down any playable files from this page in 2024.

Why, given your recent history, do we not believe that explanation?

@sanjihimura, I can't blame you. But you can see for yourself on the wayback archive from last october, the download button is an external link.  https://web.archive.org/web/20241009033637/https://kasuraga.itch.io/mouthwashing . I dunno why itch allows external links to be made if they are against the rules.

They aren’t against the rules, we just don’t index placeholder pages or pages that are just links to somewhere else. We want people browsing the itch.io main site to be viewing games they can access on itch.io. That doesn’t mean you can’t, for example, use itch.io pages as a portfolio with your work that is hosted elsewhere. It just won’t be promoted by our discovery tools.

Just because a game is “deindexed” doesn’t mean it’s breaking the rules. It just means that we aren’t promoting it from the main site.

i am willing to believe this one, this once, because the download button does in fact link outside of itch. I didn't even know this was possible. and it is certainly very weird of kasuraga

Hi, looked at this myself after seeing this all develop on Bluesky.

In particular I checked that the criteria mentioned by Leafo isn't some new ad hoc excuse, it existed at least a year ago already.

https://web.archive.org/web/20240825160531/https://itch.io/docs/creators/getting...

And it very clearly states:

Ensure you have files uploaded to the project page. Your page must be purchasable, downloadable, or playable in the browser to be indexed. Empty placeholder pages will not be indexed.
If you want to make your up-and-coming project discoverable through itch.io, then use our Devlogs feature. Those are indexed even if no files are uploaded

I would sincerely suggest showing a smaller platform like this as much solidarity as to the indie devs, they got ambushed with sudden demands from major companies they depend on to survive and had to take emergency actions, blaming them just distracts from lobby groups and financial companies responsible for this.

good explanation 💪

That's the thing.  While I will put the blame where it belongs, and admit that I was wrong, fact is that I don't need the lecture.

I just simply made a statement about Leafo's recent history and refused to believe the statement at the time.  I still don't believe him as far as cowtowing as far as he did to the leftist idiots that got Steam.

Call me out if you must, but don't lecture.

Collective Shart is right wing actually.

1. The word is "kowtowing".

2. Collective Shout are right-wing fanatics based in Australia.

doesnt matter if they were "forced" (which they werent) they still decided to comply with their demands. the truth is FUCK VISA, FUCK MASTERCARD, FUCK COLLECTIVE SHOUT AAANNDDD FUCK ITCH.IO for complying with their retarded demands

While I do believe you that the game was delisted for the reasons you state and the devs/publisher are mistaking delisting for deletion, you really brought all of this negative attention upon yourselves. Shame on you.

Something's not right here. The project violates this rule, but it is indexed anyway. Hahaha...
