Nope - I've completed at least one game jam before.

How does your game fit the theme?
Conway's Game of Life is famously a zero-player game; you set up the initial state of the game, and let the simulation take over. With cellular automata, you *just* get started, and everything else happens automatically.

Additionally, Rogue Automata is a roguelike, where getting started again and again is core to the gameplay loop!

I finally managed to play this! idk if it was just my internet connection - anyway - This is such an interesting concept, i love it! i also absolutely suck at it but i think its partly because im a dumb human being instead of a computer. i have to say, it is a bit confusing at first but after a while it becomes clear what you are supposed to do - still, a mini explanation wouldn't have hurt but hey - game jams do be like that. Overall, super nice concept that could easily be turned into a full fledged game!

Developer

Thank you so much, and thanks for coming back! Yeah a step-by-step tutorial would definately be a big help, I'll have to put that high on my list of things to work on after the jam ends.

it's a really nice game and very original, it felt really polished and the particles moving where really fun to watch

Developer

I’m glad you liked it! I might not be an artist, but at least I can polish squares haha

Excellent game! could totally see this being a thing. Could benefit from having a restart level button or something, but all in all is great.

Thank you so much! You can actually buy the Retest relic in the shop, which allows you to retry a level!

Cool concept to make the game of life into a rogue like! It is just really hard to predict what will happen. And that is why the sandbox feature is so amazing! I loved it!

The UI could use some polishing to make it more intuitive and clear.

Great job!

Thank you so much! I think at this point, literally anything can be turned into a roguelike lmao

I totally agree about the UI. I really wanted to get a tooltip system set up that would let you easily check what everything does, but that had to get cut for time.

You may be right on that LOL.

Cool roguelike game but could really profit from some better art

Developer

It could! I really wanted to go in and make unique tiles for every type of automata--right now, it's not very colorblind-friendly. But I'm not really much of an artist, so I figured my time was better spent polishing what I have. Colorblind friendly art is at the top of my todo list if I end up continuing this project!

This is amazing! I absolutely love this concept (while I am terrible at making it actually do what I meant it to do lol) and I've always wanted to find this turned into an actual game. So, very well done! 👏👏

Thank you so much! I've wanted to make a game from Conway's Game of Life for years now, but I could never figure out how to make it work. But I've wanted to make a roguelike for a while, and the jam had me thinking along the lines of a Rube Goldberg machine......so that's when the the idea clicked into place.

I was really inspired by the game Calculate It and DougDoug's PvP Game of Life stream.

This game is awesome ! Just like life simulation but a roguelike, I love it !

Nice concept! I was a bit confused at first, but after watching the how-to-play video, everything became clear.

Cool idea/presentation. I also really liked the music! It was pretty complicated, so I never really knew how to form my guys properly, but that may just be me :o

Very interesting, I was a little confused at some points but overall very cool

it looks like a cool idea but i cant play it on browser (Firefox) idk if anyone had this issue - will be playing it later fore sure though

Developer

hmmm.... I was able to get it working on Firefox, but it might take a minute to load. But there's also a standalone windows version that should be a lot faster!

This is a cool take on the game of life. Presentation is great and I love the vibe of the game. The addition of sandbox mode is brilliant. It's a little hard to make use of the extra mechanics in the main game because the simulation can behave unexpectedly. Very nice game, very creative!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Sandbox mode was how my initial prototype worked, and I wanted to make sure I left a way to access it in the game because it was already fun just to toy around with.
