Great art, and I love the idea here. Convincing a landlord that you're the one who should get the apartment instead of the other 20 people in line always seems like walking on eggshells, maximizing an invisible stat that they're building in their head on how "safe" and agreeable an investment you are. The game captures that perfectly, where you have to avoid saying anything that you actually want to say. There's some well written dialogue here, that touches on important issues, like landlords seeing couples with babies as a liability.

I feel though as there might be a bug in the dialogue selection. Sometimes the response seems based on one of the choices that I didn't take. I always avoided the environmentalist issue, but the landlord still brought it up at some point.

Thank you so much for your review! And yes — if our entire existence seems to be gradually turning into a game, then finding a decent apartment couldn’t be any different :). What you mentioned about the dialogue system isn’t so much a bug as it is a narrative path design that could be improved. It’s very likely that some references to unchosen options slipped into the landlord’s lines. We’ll definitely keep that in mind for the future. Once again, thank you so much!

The topic of renting is really a hot one atm! What a story - I love how you brought the moment to life: the frustration, the confusion, and the disappointment when you don´t get what you came for, even though this is not what you really had in mind. Great combinations of lovely art and amazign sound - thank you for a lovely game!

Thank YOU for your comment. Here in A Coruña, even though it's a very small city, we're already struggling to afford decent housing. I can’t even imagine what it must be like in Berlin... It’s time for us to come together and get organized to put a stop to this madness. No doubt. I hope that games like yours and ours can help spark some mobilization, even if it's just a little :)

I enjoyed this one, and thank you for having an English option. I've had similar experiences with acting during a house viewing to sound more "desirable" as a tenant, they probably wouldn't let me in if I told them what I really thought. Nice artwork and music too.

Exactly — if life itself is already a performance, then finding an affordable apartment is increasingly becoming the play of our lives ðŸ™‚ Thank you so much for playing our little game, Umaya.

Bo sentido do humor, bo pixel art, bos argumentos en contra do turismo masivo.

Apertas mil!

wow, a incredible amount of effort has been put into this game. I really love the art style, and the look of a game. Bonus that you can play it on phone too without being too clonky. The texts are rather long, and I did find myself skimming rather than reading but other than that, really good game.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing it and for your kind words! And yes, the texts did end up being quite long. We'll keep that in mind for our next game :)

This one was a shocker! At first I thought I knew what kind of experience you were offering and as I continued you really threw me for a loop - in a good way.

First, it's a plus that the game is offered in two languages. I played the English version and didn't see any issues at all during my playthrough with translation. Secondly, I like the pixel style and the interactivity through the various segments. Lots of humor here, and it took me a minute to realize how lightheated the game really is. It isn't a comedy but you use wit and sarcasm to make a point and foreshadow what comes later.

Speaking of which, I thought I was playing a game where the goal was to trick someone with a cover story but that isn't quite what this is about. It takes a much deeper look at the effects of tourism and greed. I'm aware that a new law was passed in a part of Spain concerning places catering only to vacationers and pushing out those who live in the actual areas. So this is incredibly timely. It could benefit from limiting the word count in a few spots, but once I got into the heft of the game I didn't mind that as much - still it did toe the line for most my playthrough between informative and wordy. But not enough to make me give up on playing.

And that's my review, I think you made something that really speaks to the theme of the jam but does a service to the topic you're presenting.

Wow! Thank you so much for your kind words and for playing our game with such attention, respect, and care. It's the first game the three of us have made together, and messages like this make us want to keep going. Also, you completely understood the idea and message of the game. And you're absolutely right about the length of the texts — next time, we'll try to get more to the point :)
