If you have any questions about the jam, this is the place to ask!

Hi Luciel! Good question. Unfortunately, because sirens are considered humannoids and are often human from the waist-up, we will need to say no on this one.

Submitted

Hi, would it be alright if the player character is the one that's non-human rather than the love interest?

Host

Hi ZoneDoll! You're more than welcome to make your protagonist non-human (we encourage it actually), but per the rules and theme of the jam your love interests MUST be non-human/non-humanoid.

Submitted

Thank you for the clarification! Follow up, does the romance have to be reciprocated or even acknowledged by the love interest, or can I just have the MC pining?

Host

Hey Zone! Good question. If the romance is one-sided and the love interest only sees the protagonist as a friend or nothing at all, that's fine! :)

Hi! The idea for a jam is really cool, though what of the following characters to build on the romans interest would be considered an "ok" for a non-humanoid enough? Let's say would be Garrus (alien from Mass Effect), Scar (vastaya from Arcane) or Claude 6 (from Destiny 2) considered too human for it?) just as an example

Host

Hey Lynx!

Garrus: Perfectly okay! He's pretty alienish!

Scar : With his mask on, he's pretty monster-rish. We're a bit iffy on him without it.

Cayde-6: Love the face, it definitely gives the impression of a robot. However, since we're not able to see the rest of his body (from Google Images, we're not familiar with Destiny 2!) we think he's too humanoid for our taste. If you take inspiration from him, make your character more like WALL-E or the robot from the Jetesons! So giving him more robust, robot body, maybe claws for hands or clearly showing his hands are made out of parts and wires, and/or change his legs to be wheels instead. Just some examples!

Thank you for clarification!

Is there  going to be a discord? Or is there one?

Host

No, we have no plans to make a Discord server for the jam!

(1 edit)

Hi! Iam looking around and the jam sounds fun, iam not sure if iam going too enter but i dont really get why not making a discord server for it? Its the most efficient and easiest way of finding teammates and sharing what you can do and have done.

Discords just makes sense for jams, i dont get why this one isnt going too have one?

Hi! I'm new to game dev and this will be my first time joining a game jam.

I understand this is a non-human focused game jam, but I wanted to check if it is okay to have a mix of both non-human and human/humanoid characters - just have a focus between non-human/human relationship or are submissions restricted to having only non-human interactions in game?

Host

Hey 4x! That's a good question. The only characters that HAVE to be non-human/non-humanoid is the love interest (or whoever is the object of the MC's affection, romantic or platonic) themself. Side characters and the protagonist can be human, a humanoid of something kind, or non-human/non-humanoid!

Thank you for the clarification! 馃槉

Can I make other tabletop games besides ttrpgs?

Host (1 edit)

Yes, just as long as the game and its files can be accessed through itchio! :)

Can I then present the game as a modification to the tabletop simulator? Or are there other ways to display a board game via itch.io ? I've just never seen tabletop games being shown through this website.

Host

People have made their TTRPGs available by providing the rulebooks and other necessary content through PDFs. You can look for some examples in the physical games section! https://itch.io/physical-games

If your game must be hosted off the website in order to be played, then I apologize but it cannot be submitted to this jam as we must be able to verify each entry

One more question, does the main character have to be the hero of a love story? Or can he act as cupid, who will use actions to bring characters to their partners?

Host

Hi Matsu! The objective of the jam is to create a game in where the player can pursue non-humanoid/non-human LIs, so yes, for this iteration of the jam they will need to be the hero.

However, I do like the idea of acting like the cupid so in the future if we do this jam again, we'll allow for the player to act as the wingman instead.

Thanks for the reply! I've just think about game like "coffee talk", but there's main hero help characters to fall in love in other characters. Anyways, thanks for telling me in advance!

Hi!! Quick question: are Analogue horror creatures/Uncanny Valley allowed? Can they be considered monsters or are they too humanoid?

Host

Hey Choco! Analogue horror creatures are game. When it comes to Uncanny Valley, can you explain a bit more of what you had in mind if you were able to create a character with this concept? From our understanding, uncanny valley is based on making really realistic humans to the point it becomes unsettling, so it might not exactly work for this jam.

Ohh okay. Thank you so much for clarifying!! Also, yes - when it came to the Uncanny Valley, I had the human-like ones in mind. I think I'll need to find something else lol.

Hi! Thanks so much for hosting this jam! Traditional object head character form would go against the spirit of the jam? (they have their heads cut off entirely, but their bodies are clearly human)

Host

Hey INSA! Sorry for catching your message now, I missed it with my other notifications. The other host and I will discuss this a bit since it's tricky to call. I'll let you know tomorrow (Friday)! Thank you for your patience and again sorry for the lateness on my answer.

Host

Hey INSA! Good question. Looking further into these types of characters, I would say it goes against the spirit of the jam since their body is mostly human aside from their head!

Thank you so much for your answers! Would a look like Ulrich from reverse 1999 defeat the purpose at all? (The rip on the right side of his clothes completely reveals his machine body and glowing machine heart :3 I think it probably wouldn't, based on the answers above, but I wanted to double check). https://static.zerochan.net/Ulrich.%28Reverse%3A.1999%29.1024.4509338.webp

Host (3 edits)

Hey INSA! Yep, a look like this would be perfectly fine! Consider adjusting the clothes a bit (maybe make the gloves fingerless to reveal more of their robotic hands?) :)

would it be allowed to have a non-human LI that has a human in its sprite? Like it's a parasite stuck to a human, and you can see the human, but you're only romancing the parasite

Host (4 edits)

Hey tidbit. This is tricky to answer, if I'm going to be honest. Can we have further clarification on how the human will play a role in your story, if any?

If he's essentially treated as a side character whose sole purpose is to keep the parasite alive and the romantic focus remains entirely on our parasite, I think we can allow it. But again, let me know what you plan on doing so I can give you my final final answer!

sorry, didn't see you edited this. All the focus is on the parasite itself, human is basically a battery it's stuck to

Host

Ah gotchu! Yeah, then the parasite should be fine! :)

Will IF submissions be allowed?

Host(+1)

IF submissions are allowed! :)

Submitted

Hi! Would ghosts be allowed, or is this too human of a love interest?

Host

Hi Hatsune! Yeah, unfortunately a ghost would be too human for this jam.

Hey Hey! Do y'all have a discord for this Jam? Just asking since I'm an artist and have basically no experience on programming :o

Submitted

One of the previous questions asked this, and the answer was no. There also seems to be no plans of ever making one for this Jam.

Hey Guys! Just wondering as i don't think the jam page specified. Can you team? I have no game dev experience, being a composer. can i make music for someone else?

Thanks!

Host

Hi Mosss! Yes, you can build a team yourself or join one, :)

Awesome!

(1 edit)

Sorry if this question was previously answered, but is there a limit to team sizes? Asking because currently it's just me and another programmer, and we were thinking about expanding the team to include a writer and composer and wanted to know if this went over a limit, or if there was no limit to team size?

Host (1 edit)

Hi rembius! Nope, there's no team size limit! :)

Hey, just wondering does the non human have to be sentient? is it okay for the player to fall in love with a robot that is just a robot? they would be projecting personality and the like onto it though, even if the robot isn't displaying that behavior itself.

Host

Hi Isabelle! Yes, that's completely fine!

thank you!!

Hello!

So, I have a couple of questions.  Is there a limit to how many members can be in a group? So far, our project has three devs and three artists.

Also, it says in the description that NSFW is not allowed, but what about mature topics like suicide and mental illness? Is that considered NSFW?

Also school shooting and bullying are mentioned topics. Our game is a dating weapons simulator.

Thanks~

Host

Hi Grymm.

1) There is no member limit. You are welcome to have as many members as you like!

2) NSFW is sexual content.

3) While suicide and mental illness are topics that can be explored, we ask that it's done so with grace and respect. With that being said, a weapons dating sim that talks about school shootings is not something we're comfortable having submitted to our jam.

Hello!

Thanks for the reply.

Schoolshooting is not the main  topic of the game, nor it is something we aim to portray in the game itself. However, I was asking in case the topic is briefly mentioned since I'm still writing the dialogue.

I can avoid the topic altogether, since it doesn't even happen to begin with.

What does happen is that the main protagonist might want to take revenge on someome depending on the player's choices. The game is a bit dark in the narrative... Let me know if that is okay. If not, I can change the direction of the game.

Jam Host

Hi ladygrymm,

We鈥檝e discussed this as hosts and feel that this direction isn鈥檛 appropriate for the jam. These topics are extremely sensitive and can be distressing for players and participants.

We encourage you to continue creating and experimenting with ideas, but for this event, we ask that you pursue a different direction.

Thank you for your understanding.

Hello,

That's alright. Thank you for the feedback.  We will come up with something else.

Submitted

My team does not believe that we will be able to submit anything in time. If so, it would most likely be a short demo. There are still many plans in the works for this game, so we hope  to fully release its entirety sometime far in the future. I was wondering, would we be allowed to credit this jam in the future for giving us the inspiration to make this game, even if the jam has long passed?

Host

Yes, you can do that! :)

Submitted

is there any chance of short individual extensions for submissions? it鈥檚 okay if not!

Host

Hi! We won't be doing extensions just so that it's fair to everyone else who was able to get their submissions in on time. But since this isn't a ranked/competitive jam, we recommend you submit what you have and just update it in the coming days/weeks! :)

Submitted

Ok, tysm for answering! Good to hear we can update after, I know some jams prefer entries don鈥檛
