Game Description
Try to rescue and sort the books... however, books... time is running out!

How does your game tie into the theme?
The never ending stream of books and scrolls brings chaos. You control it! By collecting them from the pile and sorting them into the respective containers and shelves you reduce the chaos, by doing nothing chaos is increased.

After reading the other comments I was able get going but I still don’t know where to put the partially unrolled scroll so had to cheat-delete from inventory. After the jam ends you can’t upload game files but you can edit the page at any time. I always end up updating mine with the known bugs and often explaining the game since I never manage to get a tutorial in.

The game looked and sounded great, keep it up!

Developer

Thanks! That's good to know and the update-to-explain is a good idea, I will keep this in mind! :)
Partially unrolled scrolls go on the hanger right beside the door-to-the-outside in the workshop - probably a little bit too hidden now that I think about it.

Ah! Yep, didn’t see it at all! Just replayed it and I realized that you have to click right on the hanger but there is a larger area that triggers the translucent version so I thought putting it away initially wasn’t working. Given the absurd pile up of books, in this case being more generous with clicking is probably the way to go but the game is indeed much more enjoyable now that I know how to play all of it an not cheat :)

The art style and music go together quite well, and the book rescuing is ok, but with no purpose, I quickly got bored.

For your first jam, though, the only described implementation I could not appreciate is the sorting mechanic. I just right clicked to delete things from the inventory, collected 5 more things, then right clicked 5 more times.

I believe you will succeed if you give yourself the patience and gusto to grow in your discipline.

Thanks for playing and your encouraging words!

Fantastic vibes. I couldn't get the game to go full screen, but I thought all the art and lighting were fantastic. I couldn't actually get the core game play mechanic down, or figure out what to do with the books, but the music and theme were top notch.

Developer

Thanks for playing!

The books/scrolls go into the respective containers in the workshop-room :)

The vibes here are great, I love the art direction and music. And coming back from exploring to find a gigantic pile of books and scrolls was super funny. Great submission!

Developer

Thank you for playing and exploring!

Very creative and the 3D environment is well rendered!

Thank you!

Very unique idea for the game jam! I am always impressed by 3d projects in these jams.

I really enjoyed the aesthetics, and audio. I was running so much between rooms to try and win.
For some reason non of the books or scrolls I put away in the other room showed up on the score board at the in.

This would be fun if you could expand it like that old school mist game with chaos puzzles like this. Like a panic room each time you progress!

Thanks you!

The scoring is by design: you need to fulfill one of the containers (one of the tables with the open books is the easiest one) to get points. I planned to remove a row of books from the falling book dome (basically a Tetris-eliminate-row mechanism) as soon as you fulfill any of the containers so that you have more time to fulfill more - but had not the time to fully implement it :(

Probably will rework it a little bit after the jam :)

Thanks also for the panic room idea, I will keep this in mind! :)

LOVELY visuals! However, the performance is a bit bad on Mac and I feel like the game needs things like Occlusion culling and baked lights. These are really easy to do in Godot and could boost performance by a lot. Would love to play a horror game in this theme though!

Developer

Thanks!

Yeah, unfortunately, I had no time to get proper into the optimization stuff. But will eventually, so I am up to date at the next jam :)

Really like the idea of cleaning up as a means to control chaos. The physics based gameplay helps add the mood that stuff is really piling up (quite literally).  Graphics set the tone well and audio was a good accompaniment, especially with the ramping pitch. Would have liked to see an end goal or some tracker of progress, and after a while I was right clicking to clear my books (though I'm not sure if that was making the problem better or worse).

Developer

Thanks! There is a score board at the end, which tracks how much you did! :)

Embarrassingly, the right mouse click is a debug feature and not intended :(

Hahahah that's what I figured but I felt like I stumbled on a secret superpower :0
