- My god, this is hard. While I'm simply not gamer enough to get far into the game, I have to say that I'm very positively surprised by the end result you achieved here in the short span of the jam. At all times the mechanics feel correct. No matter how many times I fall or miss a jump, at no point does it feel like the game cheated me out of a success, it is clearly always my fault. And this is perfect for this kind of hard to beat climb game, because not only it makes for a hard challenge, but also one that everyone playing knows that they can beat it if they are good enough, it invites challenge. Both the collisions, rotation and momentum from the gun are working extremely consistently, to a point I believe I only encountered a weird interaction once, and that was the very edge of the bouncing block, so that's just physics doing what physics does. The level of polish on both the mechanics, the art, and the level design is very impressive for something made in such a short time. The art is very coherent across all the in-game aspects, which creates good immersion and an overall is something good to look at. The sound effects around the gun definitely help to give better feedback on the players actions. A couple things that I would like to point out. While you did provide a GDD that contains the basic concepts of the game and art, I'd recommend you to spend some more time on it in the future. That goes specially for any project that you plan on having a bigger scale than a jam game. It is important to put all the details of what you are planning, how mechanics work as well as other things so that you always have something to source when planning next steps of development or making sure the development is following the originally desired outcome. This will prove specially valuable if you ever work with a team. Other than that, some smaller things that I want to be picky for you just because you did a great job, and I'm sure were just cut because of limited time but still good to mention. Would be good to see some more work on the UI, not in terms of adding more information, just working it better into the style of the game. Both menus and in-game. Adding more juiciness to the gun and character would elevate the experience of the game a lot. ie some vibration of the weapon when fired, reload animation, visual reaction on the character when moving/shooting/spinning.

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes
Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes
Summarise your game!
ShotRoach is a skill based climbing game. The player (a cockroach called Cocky) must use a gun to propel themselves through various levels of subterranean structures. Left and right arrows control rotation, and up arrow or spacebar is shoot.
Please explain how your game fits the theme:
The game incorporates the theme by having you essentially play as the gun, since it is your only means of transportation
Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
The boss fight at the end.

Super fun! I like how there's no velocity cap so I can just launch myself as far as I want.
This is a pretty cool idea! Very hard foddian game, unfortunately can’t tell you much about the boss fight :/ I’m not good enough haha
Some (personal) feedback:
Thanks!
Cool game! Too bad I'm bad XD
I played this one for a while, really solid mechanics and game design! I found myself getting stuck in certain places and having to roll my way back to an ammo pack but you did say the game was hard! The gun sound effects are really nice, feels powerful! I love the humor in the intro, nice game submission :)
Thank you for the feedback!
The shooting mechanic feels pretty good. Wish i had a few extra bullets. Game looks good tho! Great job!
Thanks!
fun concept, im not good enough to explore the level sadly
Sorry I accidentally deleted your comment on the main page. Thanks for the review though!
Cool! The game is indeed difficult, i did enjoy it but for the sake of my sanity make the gun roll quicker on the ground

Started off promising and with a bit of polish I can see myself playing it for longer, but the level design is hostile in a way that isn't fun, even for a rage game.
This becomes more problematic because ground movement means having to roll a square peg along the ground, which wastes a lot of time in an otherwise fast-paced game. Letting the player walk or even just making the collision box circular would cut the downtime in half.
I like the simplicity of the controls, but there's definitely room for improvement in resetting the player for their next attempt, both in terms of ground movement and level design.
Thanks for the feedback! I was actually planning on adding a walking feature but unfortunately the deadline crept up on me sooner than I thought.
