They do, but for VRC the default lip sync option can only animate the blendshapes of one mesh

I know this is a bit late but if you use VRCFury there is a Advance Visemes component which allows you to have visemes work on multiple meshes

Ah I think I have found a workaround. I can join the meshes of the bridle and the body to have it be one mesh with one set of shape keys. It does mean that I can't animate the rendering of the mesh for toggles/etc. but that's fine for me in this case. Thanks!
