Love the game! Its a very well made, but I feel there is one very big issue that you should fix after the jam is over. You should reduce the screen shake when the weapons are firing a lot of bullets, I played till wave 20, but then had to stop due to the nauseating feeling due to high screen shake.

Also, a few tips to make the game more fun. You should reduce the reload time for the sniper and rocket launcher, because that does not suit the fast paced nature of your game. It will make them overpowered, so be sure to nerf them if you follow my advice. Secondly, should give the player a reason to move around. In its current state, I could just get a fast firing gun, such as the machine gun, and then camp in one corner of the map. I did not find the chest you placed until i decided to find a way to complete the game.

All in all, fantastic work! Love the art and music, and the game was well made. Keep it up!

I'm glad you liked it!

Yes, I really need to reduce the screen shake a bit. Someone else suggested changing the screen shake depending on the weapon and I'll implement it when I have the time.

I should change the reload time too. I wanted the sniper to have piercing bullets, but I didn't really have the time so I just left it. I will try to balance the weapons as soon as possible!

Thank your for the feedback, appreciated!

No Problem! I hope you try out my game too and give me your feedback on it too!

Like the weapon variety. But after reading SOL games comment... Yeah there's really one you're ever going to use. I like the map, the ruins are perhaps the best zone. Enemies can easily be grouped into one place. I feel like the game did bug out on me. This is probably construct3 cause all the spawn and explosion effects I see on the screenshots appeared as thin white lines.

Developer

Yes, the rocket launcher is really overpowered and I need to change that in some way.

I'm sorry about the bug, it shouldn't appear like that. I am planning on switching to godot, but construct 3 is just so fast and easy to use, so we'll see how it goes.

Anyway, thank you for the reply!

This is quite good for beginner level, especially considering you made it in such short time.

The gameplay is relatively decent. The art style and music are nice and pleasant to the eye. Adding a variety of weapons is a good idea- it helps the gameplay feel less repetitive. NPC movement speed felt nice - not too fast or too slow.

The feedback system is pretty effective- you assigned different colours to the particles depending on whether the NPC is hit or killed, and a clear feedback for when the player takes damage - both particles and character sprite blinking. Great job with this part of the game.

Few suggestions that come to mind are-

1. you may want to reduce the screen-shake a bit, or at least change the intensity according to the gun in use- pistol: low shake, RPG: high shake, etc.

2. Depending on the weapon that the player is using, you can spawn the number of enemies to match with it. Some people like using guns with high fire rate, so when that gun is equipped, spawn more enemies; when pistol is equipped, spawn fewer enemies. The idea is that the players should feel like they are getting the most out of the gun that they want to play with.

The game is quite good and has potential for improvements. Overall, nice work!

Thank you for the feedback! Reducing screen-shake on lighter weapons and then crank it up once you get to more heavy artillery is a really good idea and I'll try to add it as soon as possible.

Giving the enemies guns would probably improve the gameplay too, since instead of just mindlessly running around and maybe sometime avoid danger, you'd actually have to dodge enemy attacks.

Both great ideas, thank you for the reply!

So, the music is repetitive, the rpg is OP, and the enemies are too easy to kite. Honestly.... that's all the negatives I saw. I listened to that repetitive music with my OP rocket launcher for 43 waves, every 10 waves thinking "ok these next 10 are the last, I have to try other games today". Your game had to kill me to make me quit lol. I love the minimalist graphics, the music is nice and calming, having more songs along the same line would make it AMAZING. If I were you, and if you wanted to still work on the game of course, I'd drop the RPG and make the enemies spawn throughout the wave instead of all at once.  That would tighten up the skill gap and add some variety to the list of "usable playstyles and weapons". This is a REALLY solid game, keep up the great work. I'd kill to be making games this fun when I was 13.

Developer

Thank you so much for your reply! I agree about both the music and the rpg and your idea about enemies spawning throughout the wave is really good, since right now the best strategy is just to wait for the enemies to group up and then kill them all in a blast :P
