took a few plays to figure out how things worked but pretty fun once did - something strangely satisfying about running around grabbing stopwatches quickly / knifing as many enemies as possible before diving into the time machine to refresh the level layout, ad infinitum

i think other commenters have already said some of these things but:

  • visuals/colors very clean and readable; sakuya squish good
  • music playing back over itself definitely something to address, especially considering this seems meant to be score-attacked repeatedly
  • enemies spawning on top of the player without warning wasn't great but they did get easier to deal with once i realized i could just run through them to avoid their attacks, instead of trying to hop over their heads / getting hit by jumping too late
  • high score counter appears to track previous score, not high score

curious to see what you do with the story, feels like there's some potential for cool stuff there

also high score:

Thank you very much for your valuable suggestions! Sorry for the many flaws in the detail elements, I will try to improve them in future projects.

Originally wanted to do a story about sakuya time travel. The enemy is the steward of time. But jam's time didn't allow me to tell the stories well, so I dropped them.

Thanks again for playing! Glad you had fun.

nice physics and art, i like the lil guys. kinda madness combat lookin

very intense music you got going on here. as a feature, it also gets more intense every time you die

i don't have much to say its just a good short hitting and moving game

Developer

Thank you so much for your compliments on this game! But in terms of music, I was just very lucky to use a song that felt good for looping. I hope you have fun in the game!

Thank you for playing and supporting!

Good groundwork for a score attack game.
The aesthetic is cool. Feels like an action movie, as another comment said. The music was simple, but added to that feeling of action movie tension. However, I was encountering a problem where, when I would die and then respawn, I think what would happen was that the music would start  up again without stopping the previous track. So the music would be playing twice, essentially. I'd guess you have a script that starts when the player spawns, and the music is started from there? Just make sure to have a check for if it's already currently playing (assuming that's why this issue was occurring).

I agree with a lot of thoughts that have already been shared. Enemies spawning too close to the player, taking too many hits, it could've been clearer what exactly the player was supposed to do, etc. But I think you have a good base here to work from, and it seems like you already have a lot of ideas for how to build it up from here!

Thank you very much for leaving a valuable review. That's it, I'm already planning the post-development work for this game. After solving things like music playback, enemy generation, etc., more interesting elements will be added, as well as a storyline (lack of game jam time made me finally give up on the story).

Finally, thank you again for playing and supporting!

This is probably a world record or something (see hi-score in the screenshot below).

Anyway, I disagree with the previous comment: it is definitely worth killing enemies, as they remain between stages. If you can keep the enemy count low, you can continue indefinitely. It's possible that the spawn frequency increases as the game goes on, but if so, it's a very slow increase, and I got bored before I got killed. Enemies can spawn very close to the player with no prior warning, which is what eventually killed me.

The safest (but slowest) method to increase score might just be to stand in the middle, where no enemies spawn, and just kill the enemies that spawn indefinitely. Only the player's tolerance for milking would limit the score obtainable in this manner. This is assuming the frequency of spawns don't increase (at some point, they'd spawn faster than you can kill).

It's very shocking that you got such a high score, congratulations!

Thank you for your suggestion, I will consider how to increase the logic related to enemy warning, and balance the above problems of scene and player operation. In the future, I will try to expand the richness and plot-related elements of this game to make it more interesting and complete.

Thanks again for playing!

An interesting game that I feel definitely could have been worked on much more to make a full-fledged experience.

Gameplay is high-tension and fun, even though it took me a while before I realized what to do (collect enough clock items and then activate the console to jump into the time machine). However, I feel like its weakest point is just how weak the knives are. They're so weak it's simply not worth it to attack enemies before they kill you, each enemy takes around 6-8 hits to kill which is a lot. I highly suggest making the knives push enemies back, or having upgrades that can boost the power of your shots as you go through the game. The music is really damn intense, I give you that. It fits the gameplay loop well.

If you do make this a full game, do consider my suggestions above as well as add more areas for uniqueness and continued fun. Overall good work! My high score was 9000, by the way.

Thank you so much for your play and advice! I will try to polish and improve it to add more attacks, skills, enemies and interactive scenes. Maybe I can launch a more complete version in a while, and I hope to get your support at that time.

I'm so glad you like my game!
