The idea is great, the art is decent, and the audio indeed slaps. However I found the gameplay a little confusing, and didn't really understand how the combat works.

I like the gameplay and the music is amazing! sorry for asking but could you try our game

Very interesting gameplay tho i dont know what the 3by3 square is for, the art was so great and with the relaxing music this game is just great, and it s just impressive that this is your first jam. Great Job!

Ikr the music is awesome!

3x3 grid is a replacement for a map. There should be a cute map with forests and mountains but oh well. I think it would be weird to just dump the player on green screen, no? The game should be way way smaller becuse now everything is there and nothing is really finished.

And just as quickly as the adventure began, it ended. Let me tell you... about Chicken Adventure.

After scraping all the missing DLL's into the game folder, I was greeted with a chicken on a 3/3 grid, with several stats on the side, like ATK, DEF, and DOGE (whether dodge or internet dog, no one knows). Progressing is very simple, you move with ARROW KEYS on the grid, where you either have an enemy encounter or gain an item. You only ever have two attacks in a battle, and normal attacks seem to work better than strong attacks, at least for my playthroughs.

You gain overpowered item, and finally you arrive on the fatal square in the 3x3 with the boss, where you proceed to wipe the floor with them. A little spike in difficulty from one snake to five, but nothing our mighty ATK can't handle. Overall I liked the limited nature of the game, the cute graphics, the sound design, and I'm left waiting for more. More encounters, more reasoning behind stats, more spaces than just a 3x3, more depth. More goodness.

I really appreciate the extensive and detailed review! It's really heart warming!

I'm glad you liked it despite the game being in alpha version (to say the least). What can I say, I bit more than I could chew!

Doge really matters in the game! Although due to the lack of time there is no balance at all!

I had some DLL missing when try to launch the game unfortunately :/

Developer

I had the same error pop-up when I tried to launch it without extracting the zip first.  Not sure if you tried that yet, but that could be the issue. Let us know if that solves the issue or not :)

I extracted all the files, but still had the error unfortunately (I double-checked by re-downloading the zip)

Developer

It's weird I was sure I attached all the dlls in the zip. Can you tell me which dll are you missing? Maybe I can just add it again or something

I had many missing:

  • MSVCP140D.dll
  • VCRUNTIME140D.dll
  • VCRUNTIME140_1D.dll
  • ucrtbased.dll

It seems like the executable requires to have a specific version of visual c++ installed.

Theese really look like Visual Studio thing. Gotta love microsoft. I found the missing dlls in my VS directory. I attached them as a zip to download, maybe if you unpack them in game directory it will run. If not well, you aren't missing out on a whole lot of gameplay :D

I really appreciate the effort tho (and I think it's worth for the 2 minutes of music that we have in the game!)

Edit: typo
