Very cool concept with switching from side view to top down for exploring, made the game feel very large and full of areas to explore. The controls were hard to remember, I suggest putting those on the Itch page itself. I never figured out how to cast a spell - I figured out that 'x' would tab between targets but that's it. I figured it would be 'c', 'q' or 'e' or 'f' since they are all right by WASD but none worked.
Music was really nice, felt like I could listen to it for quite awhile - bit of a runescape vibe to it. Nice work! Hope to have some time to come back and try the spells out.
I noticed that this was made by the COD Game Development club! I had the chance to speak with some of you all a month or so back at a talk there, so I'm glad word of the jam got your way!
VERY cool concept here that I'd love to see more of! Reminds me of Super Paper Mario, which is a plus in my book. I'm especially a big fan of how the music adds some instrumentation when you go into top down mode. I also had trouble getting my controller to work, and the keyboard controls were a tad confusing. I had forgotten what the spell change key was and had to restart to read the sign at the beginning again. I also ran into an issue where I fell through the ground and into the final boss on my second try, which was quite a funny bug but a bug nonetheless. Loved the writing as well. Lots of great stuff here guys! keep it up!
The camera work in the opening cutscene really brings the characters to life! Once I figured out I could enchant the chandeliers that first platformer puzzle was quite fun. Something tells me I can solve these puzzles with the brain key...
P.S. I like your itch page's color palette... feels familiar...
i can see a very good concept in this game! the idea of swapping between the two types of 2D that you'd typically see in a 2D game was super cool.
however, it was a bit difficult to get used to the keyboard controls. i couldn't seem to get my controller to work with this, so if you did have a controller scheme set up, then that might be on me. i also did end up getting lost by the time i picked up the 3rd key, and i couldn't find a place to use them.
i saw that in your itch page you said you struggled with time at some points, so im looking forward to a full release!
