Spooky pacman! I like it. I ended up winning by turning the light off and squinting. I found it a bit too difficult to not enrage monsters otherwise. I think I would have preferred it if the camera was pulled back a bit, although I do think the claustrophobic nature upped the spookiness a lot. I really liked the idea of trading off visibility for aggression, very elegant.
"This is a game where information is dangerous."
This is honestly such a great idea. I really like it! I think games in general could become quite a bit more interesting if they explore elements of enemy AI being able to sense the player through sight, sound or even smell. It's something I don't think we see enough of. Great entry, and I wish you all the best with the jam!
PS: This might simply be an issue with my screen's brightness, but I found that turning the light down completely still allowed me enough vision to navigate without issue, but this a minor balancing element. It could be neat to have some non-lethal hazards that are even more difficult to spot in the dark, or even optional rewards that *only* appear in the light. You know, just a little something to entice players to use their light a bit more!
PAC-MAN inspired game, bayzed. The game is fun to play and quite thrilling trying to predict the enemies movement. Solid Game
Almost like Pacman! I find if I die using a dim light then the next time I play the light won't go brighter.
Fun concept! It was quite tough to get more than a few gems. I tried to decrease my light and run away, but they easily caught me. The movement is very "pac-man" as in you move until you hit a wall. But it's also quite zoomed in, so I don't have much peripheral vision. Maybe it would be a bit easier if the movement was more directly controlled and this applied to enemies too, so they would stop following you and return to a patrol route or something when you turn off your light? Feels like a bit of tweaking could make this much more interesting :)
This waas really fun to play, loved the light mechanic. And to answer your question,, I am Definity afraid of the dark now
Really great take on an old game, but I feel there are just too many monsters. Maybe add more hints as to where they are, or perhaps they don't immediately charge, to help build a bit of tension. Otherwise, great entry—good luck!
They don't immediately charge if you turn the light down.;)
Nostalgic experience, very fun and I really like the light mechanic. Overall very cool game. Well Done!
i love the art and the idea of changing your brightness. it was so fun to be all strategic and run away from the little puff balls!
Super creepy! love the AI working with the light system!
I love Pacman-like games, so this was definitely lots of fun. I think the game missed the theme a bit as you're forced to find 50 gems before you can escape, without any other options.
Tiny bug but if you win the game once, it doesn't reset, so you can just run straight back to the exit.
The pathfinding for the enemies is very funny though. I enjoyed using max brightness and watching them occasionally find a corner to get themselves stuck in, or wrap around a wall to get to me. Also, I found the light and dark mechanic to be a really cool idea!
Hi, Regarding the theme of the jam.
It is in the light mechanic. Using the light makes it easier to collect the gems but them makes the enemies more aggressive (In theory if the ai works) So it makes it easier to complete your task but your chances of dying go up
Fair enough! Thank you for the clarification <3
