  • Game Breaking Bug - Using the Cosmic Elemental Blast puts the game into a softlock state. If you take a fairy out of order to their crystal, you softlock the game Interesting puzzles, but the softlocks really damaged my overall feel for the game

Hey there,

I'm super late to the party but I finally played your game. The whole 'Magical Girl solves problems with magic' premise feels pretty much like playing an episode of Ojamajo Doremi and that made me really happy for some reason. I absolutely adore the puzzle mechanic. The cute while somewhat hilarious interactions between Priscilla and the other characters were really enjoyable as well. The only thing I disliked was the combat, not because it's generally bad (it felt pretty default tbh), but because it felt out of place for this kind of game.

Good job overall.

Thanks for taking the time to play my game and leave a review! I had originally intended this game to revolve around puzzles, but stuff happened (as stuff does around creative projects) and I felt it necessary to shoehorn in a battle system. I’ve improved it here-and there with each update, but it’s still a weak point. I’m glad that didn’t ruin the experience and everything else was enjoyable!

Hello I've played through your game. Throughout your selection and choice of what RTP included music to use was really well done in my opinion, well done on that! I really enjoyed your puzzle and found the ideas for them creative. The bear that turns into a monster in the guy who begins stuck on a wall house can be interacted with over and over. It also reappears for me if I leave the house and re-enter, not sure if I did something that triggered the bug or it's there for everyone by default. Flying dragon is really fun! : ) I enjoyed the light humour throughout the game. I've surprised myself that I found that last dog puzzle easy. Very nice puzzles! Thank you as well for giving Priscilla full MP when going to the baddies lair, since I had no idea how else to refill it and used up the MP early on. I'm glad the battles were fairly easy to beat. I think the combat could've still had more variation in skills. If you wanted elements perhaps what each element skill does could be customized further, or leave them but add more element skills with different effects. Something like that. I enjoyed the game fully. Best of luck with what you choose to do next! : )

Thanks for the review! Yeah, the bear interaction is a bug, as is not having MP after some of the battles. If you want to revisit the game after the judging period is over, I will be releasing a patch that will improve the battle system significantly, fix the bugs, and even flesh out the content!

Ah I see, I assumed we had to be careful with how to use MP but that makes some sense it's a bug. That sounds like it'll be fun to play so I'll happily playthrough a patch version. : ) I liked Priscilla being superhero of sorts, and I did enjoy your plot twist at the end. Best of luck with that and future games! : )

The judging period is over now, so I have updated the game to version 1.2. I hope you like the changes!

KV_Kingdom, developer of Iranor and Power Crystal Crysis, introduces us to Magical Girl Priscilla. A take on the Magical Girl genre featuring the one and only Priscilla in the starring role.

The puzzle parts were really nice. It contrasts with the RPG aspect which is as barebone as it gets.

It was pretty nice all-around. There is just one point I'd like to point out to.

- This.

Other than that... I don't know what else to say. This is a simple game with neat little puzzle sections.

Good luck for the game jam! ^^

Thanks, PikaMew! I know people don’t like the “hiding under the covers” effect with the beds, but I’m not sure what to do differently. What would you suggest? Maybe prevent the player from walking on that part of the bed?

Submitted

A bit complicated, but feasible relatively quickly if the main character is alone or with deactivated followers. What I could suggest is to make the bed and the cover two separated parts. One to go on top of the other. This is how my tileset is setup.

However if the player goes to the tile below her head risks to be cut off.

So what I suggest is for the second part of the bed to actually be an event. It must obviously have the appearance of the bottom part of the cover. And its priority is "Below the characters". If the character goes to the tile below, the event is below the characters. If not, it's above. You want it to be a parallel event imposing a condition. When setting up the condition, go to script and say:

$gamePlayer.y === $gameMap.event(1).y + 1

If will make sure the event triggers if the character is at a position where it can be below the bed. If the condition is filled, I make him set ON a local switch (you can go for a regular switch if you prefer). Copy this page and paste it. In the copied page, make sure it triggers once the switch we set up is ON and it goes above the characters. Once done, go to your condition and instead of "===" type "!==" which should result in:

$gamePlayer.y !== $gameMap.event(1).y + 1

Finally, if the condition if filled, instead of setting the switch ON, set it OFF instead.

Then, it should work like this:

Finally, if you want more info on Script Calls, you can still check these: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-Oa0cRGpjC8L5JO8vdMwOaYMKO75dtfKDOetnvh7...

These are Script Calls for RPG Maker MV, but they still work on RPG Maker MZ so you should have no problem making use of these.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that very detailed response! You’ve shown me how to make beds work better and taught me a little about script calls at the same time! 😃

I’m a bit leery of using parallel processes, especially for something as mundane as a bed, but now that you’ve given me some tools I can try to find a more-efficient solution.

Again, many thanks for the feedback!

You're welcome! Something I forgot to mention is: the 1 in parenthesis in the code is the ID of the event. To be, it was 1, because the event of the bed was 1, but don't forget to change the ID for the correct one.

Personally, I don't hesitate to use parallel events whenever I need them. Obviously I'm talking about - in general - a common event running in parallel and maybe one or two on the map depending on the situation.

And again, you're most welcome! If you have questions to ask, don't hesitate to ask me here or on Discord if you have it. ^^

Really cool idea of using the puzzle levels as the means to solve the magic problems. Cosmic Elemental Blast ftw! (There seems to be some missing assets, but managed to brute force it by copying the MZ effects and SE back into the folder)

Developer

Thanks, Nowis! I'm glad you liked it!

In case you watch the judges' streams later and wonder why the game looks different, I chatted with Studio Blue about the missing files and determined that I could delete version 1.1 (the version you played) and keep my original submission (version 1.0) up. I hope the loss of quality is seen as a reasonable penalty and I look forward to uploading an even-more improved version after the jam!

Alright, so I finished this game! And I really enjoyed the magical girl theme of the story, and the puzzles were very fun! I love the idea of having fairies follow you around and use their elemental affinity to solve the puzzle on the "magical perspective" world! :D The cat levers were really adorbs too! Though I have to be honest, my newb self kinda got lost at the dog puzzles lol. xD The music you used on combat was really good that I sometimes stay longer than I should. <3 Combat was really simply and easy though, considering the puzzles were the strength of this game, and they were very nicely done and very fun and satisfying to solve. :D Poor Reid though haha. xD Great job, KV_Kingdom! ^_^

Awesome, thanks a bunch!
