Finally beat the game! Too bad I can't bring Spaghetti Ninjetti to justice.

Teleport out of dungeon after boss is a major time saver, even though I have to grind down with the slime afterwards.

Map design and exploration is awesome, too bad I got too scared of exploring too much and get my level way down lol. Maybe you can make blocking enemies respawn on the side, so you won't have to fight them again every time you return to town and back.

Combat balance is good, I usually only uses normal attacks though because most of the party only uses TP skills and TP somehow decreases the more you walk.

The ending is peak. We want New Game Minus!

Thank you for sharing this game!

Thank you for your feedback!

I am glad you enjoyed the game - the biggest challenge was the balancing for sure.

It's incredibly difficult to balance a JRPG conventionally, never mind trying to do it with reverse progression as I did but thanks to yourself and others giving constructive feedback I was able to improve it to give you all a game that did something a little more out of the box in terms of gameplay and mechanics.

Glad you got to the end though - out of all the project, making the ending scene was my most fun and proudest moment  so I'm happy you enjoyed the ending.

As for New Game Minus - I really wouldn't know where to start (or end?) with something like that but if I get enough suggestions I may make a small update in the future (or past - seriously , stop it now) - who knows? :)

Got until Vampire. Blizzard hurts! It seems like you can get softlocked by levelling down too far. I am level 45 when battling Vampire, losing the healer definitely hurts. This is one tough game for sure!

Thanks for checking it out!

The balancing of the game using this mechanic is not great, admittedly. It requires you to think opposite to what is the norm whereby killing less enemies will give you an easier time, so if you are struggling it may be better to just kill the mobs that are in your way rather than hunting them all down (partly my design choice with symbol encounter rather than random battles).

You can also save in front of chests and reload if they are Mimics. These are fixed and not random chance, so a Mimic chest will always be a Mimic chest.

I wasn't planning on an update for this game but I may consider if people are finding it too tough. Let me know if this is something you want.

Thanks :)

I think you need a fast warp to outside of a dungeon after completing it. When you backtrack to the entrance you end up levelling down too much, because you have to defeat the blocking enemies no matter what.

Developer

Good shout, I'll be working on it as well as some rebalancing - hopefully won't take too long.

Played down to level 90 so far.  I like it!

I never thought to dread fighting weak enemies. That’s a clever mechanic there! Party’s banter was a highlight. It’s well put together, kudos on that! Finished a couple of dungeons before getting my ass handed by the succubus, kinda hot. So, you need to both be low level and return the key items to get the milk? I’m parched, man.

Thanks very much for playing!

One thing I didn't balance well due to the game's nature and the way I knocked it out in a couple of days using the VX ACE sample maps and whatnot is that although you can do the dungeons in any order, if you do them out of sequence you are going to have a tough time. For the record, the easiest (correct) order would be Pyramid, Ice Temple, then the big tree. And YES you need to be actually level 1 to get the milk from the town store and have put all quest items back.

Progression wise, I only recommend fighting the enemies that block your path or in treasure chests as you can level down VERY easily in a small, safe secluded area after the main quests are done.

If you go to the ruins in the SW corner of the overworld, you can fight VERY weak slimes to level you down quickly and there is a bonus slime lurking in the corner that knocks ~5-10 levels off per kill. You can easily get to level 1 from level 30ish in a matter of minutes (do after you put the quest items back or you will be too weak).

Also I think the effort to get the milk is well worth it. There is a bonus scene with Eric handing the milk to his mom and also a battle sprite/animation I custom made for the ending. Glad you like it and good luck with the jam!

Nice! I’ll give it another try, I do want that milk. I was unsure if the level one was required, so I’ll plan a better route now.
