Title
Approach and Ascent
Description
I wrote the song in Ableton. DAW screenshot provided on the project page. The prompt called for exotic scales; I mostly used the harmonic minor scale but included splashes of some others. I used the provided photo as inspiration of a small group standing in front of a mountain.
Plugins used
most of my virtual instruments were used through the native instruments Kontakt plugin

Like the wave sounds and the whole mystic touch. This track reminds me of Seiken densetsu at times. really nice mix and very versatile. Really nicely done.
Really interesting sound design and feel, I enjoyed the entire flow up to 2:40! The following section with the sitar kind of felt disconnected to the rest of the piece, and took me out of the world you had built up until then. I would love to get more context on what the final section is trying to portray in your piece. Overall, I really love the unique atmosphere and flow of this piece, great job!
Thanks for the feedback! My original plan was for the piece to be two mini-movements (Approach and Ascent, thus the title. Very concert band lol)
The ending is the way it is because I joined the jam halfway through and just ran out of time to really flesh out the second half of the piece. It’s underdeveloped vs. what I wanted it to be. I only did a rough mix, too. It’s a great foundation to finish up for my portfolio, though!
Very interesting work regarding textures and timbre associations. The bells patterns give me an awesome microtonal feel.
The intro threw me right into Hellblade :) It's a truly original track, which I really appreciate. It kept me interested from the beginning to the end. I was just set back by the sitar part. For some reason, up to that point I was feeling like I was in a specific world, in which I wouldn't expect to hear the sitar. But despite that, it's probably the most interesting and creative track I've heard so far! Amazing job!

How did you get all the whispering sounds? was it just a bunch of recordings of you? they made the beginning really atmospheric which I liked. It felt tribal which is kind of what I went for with my song.
I have a plugin for creating textures! I I think it’s called mysteria by native instruments. You layer together sounds and control a bunch of other parameters.
I also used a couple ambient recordings of rain/wind that I have.
