Really nice story! I included it in my PowerPoint Jam compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)
Thanks!
I, also, could not get the .ppsx to run and had to use the html version, which feels a bit like a copout. I understand it's a last resort, but there are so many subtle things you can do in PowerPoint to give each screen some life and not feel like... well, like a slideshow.
I think the story is very charming so far, but there's something about the dialog that just seems off in a way I can't quite describe. Some of it just seems so unnatural, like no human being not reading a script would ever say it.
Doesn't open for me on 2016 (file extension has changed error)
Sorry about that. I made it with LibreOffice -- there must be some inconsistency in the file exports. Try the HTML instead, it's pretty much the same. I've had enough of LibreOffice, so I'm not going to touch the file anymore. Thanks for looking.
I think that visual novels have gameplay. This game doesn't have it at all.
Graphics are nostalgic. It's like cliparts from early 2000s.
I'm afraid when I try it, an error pops up saying "(..)the2wiseMenPart1b.ppsx cannot be opened by powerpoint"
Not sure what the problem is there?
I tried the html version, which seems to work (perhaps renaming the downloads would make it easier to see which one is the ppsx and which one is the HTML one!) The art is fun - has a great cartoon vibe, nice :)
I think I understand Sally's frustration with the lack of gameplay though. I'm not very familiar with visual novels, but I would expect some choices, even if it's not a proper branch, just to give the idea that you're interacting with it, and not just going through, well.. a slideshow ;p
A shame the ppsx one doesn't work - as I said I like the art you made for it, thanks for joining the jam!
Thanks for the constructive criticism! I've renamed the files as you suggested. Yeah, I'm afraid it wasn't going to have any choices -- more of a kinetic visual novel, so yeah, no gameplay, kind of a slide show! Thanks for the kind words about the art. This was my first foray into using a powerpoint clone, and it will probably be my last: it was a lot of work, even for what you see here, and it wasn't very successful. But yeah, thanks for looking.
The game is unplayable and the fact that Part 1 is in HTML form ruins the PowerPoint feel of a PowerPoint game.
1/10 - Gameplay
4/10 - Design
4/10 - Story
0/10 - Comedic Value

2.25/10 - Overall Score
I think you're missing the point. I provided an HTML version for people that don't have Powerpoint or some clone. There is no "gameplay", it's a visual novel. The story is, unfortunately, truncated because LibreOffice kept crashing so often. I'll take 4/10 for design! But thank you for watching.
Exactly my point. There is no gameplay to this PowerPoint “game”
"Optional Theme: Visual Novel"
It's on the first page. Before you start dishing out the criticism you should take a look at the criteria. You are also compiling ratings before the jam is finished, which is something else I'm sure you shouldn't be doing.
Visual novel for Powerpoint game jam, December 2019. There is a .ppsx file and an HTML sequence. I used LibreOffice, which ultimately crashed so often that it became unusable, unfortunately, so I just stopped halfway through. Nice idea for a game jam though.

The first file is a .ppsx file. If you have Powerpoint or similar you can extract it and view it. If you don't have Powerpoint or some clone, I've included a second file as an HTML sequence. Unzip and click on "the2wiseMenPart1b.htm".
