this had a lot more mechanics than I expected, overall solid movement and level design explores a lot of different things

good idea to introduce the mechanics little by little

for my personal taste the tutorial overexplains everything a bit too much, I think other than the stomp jump everything else is quite straightforward to understand and didn’t need that much helper text

bummer that you had so many problems with builds

Developer(+1)

I also think the same about the tutorials, but since this is a polymars jam, and I know theres a lot of young viewers so probably also participants, I didn't want them to feel bad and rate the game bad because of them not understanding. If it'd be another jam, I would've probably removed a lot of the text, and switched them out with game lore or just delete them. Thanks for playing though

Good art and interesting game mechanics! However, it seems way too hard and the movement is too slippery and I can't control it well. The spikes also seem to often have bad hitboxes.

Developer

Thanks, I'm not a pixel artist so I'm glad to hear that. About the movement, the player won't move if you don't (except if you perform a wall jump. This has a set duration which you have no control of the player). Sorry that the hitboxes of the spikes was too harsh, I guess I got too used to the big one.

okayy, i have a lottttt of feedback for this game because i spent an ungodly amount of time trying to complete it.

also ill preface this by saying im not a pc gamer so maybe its just a skill issue for me.

1. it took me 106 minutes or so to complete all 12 levels.

2. the game never registered that i got past level 1 even though i went through all 12.

3. leaderboards are not working.

4. is this celeste? coz it felt like it.

5. a lotttt, of the spikes seemed like they had wrongly placed collision boxes so i was dying a lot when i shouldn't have.

6. not all jumps are equal, some jumps went higher than others, with both normal jumps and stomp jumps and it made it incredibly hard to play sometimes.

7. music did not play for most of my run. it played once i think and that was it.

8. this game would have benefited greatly from having controller support.

9. the burnout mechanic is poorly thought out imo, when you stomp burnout and you get the movement speed buff its great, but having to balance the stamina and the overheat often meant i spent lots of time just sitting on a jump spot waiting for my overheat bar to drop down so i could move again. this did not feel good in a game that is meant to be fast.

Overall the game is good, with a nice mechanic and a nice well thought out style and feel, but the lack of a leaderboard or even a score timer at the end is extremely upsetting as i spent almost 2 hours on one run and didn't even get to see what my final score was. not to mention that i didn't get to see if it was on the leaderboard.

if the game had more time i would have liked to see the mechanics get a bit more polish so it doesnt feel like you died from something dumb such as a bad spike hitbox, and i would also like to have seen the leaderboard working so i could see if there was anybody worse than me.

Good job on the game.

1. Me and my playtesters got it under 30, so I didn't make it any easier

2/3. Yes I know, because of stupid WebGl. I didn't test it in browser, and didn't find this until it was too late. Same with the leaderboard

4. Taken inspiration from there

5. I carefully changed them so when you touched them you'd die. The player collision is a teensy bit bigger, but that's just because of some probems I had with the code I wouldn't care to fix because of the time constraints.

6. If you hold the jump button you jump the full jump force. But if you let go mid-air it cuts your velocity a little bit, so you'll have more control over the character and how high your jumps are.

7. Just like the leaderboard and saving, webgl screwed me over big time

8. It does

9. Then you used more actions than you're supposed to. There are coins placed in to cut your bars, and they aren't needed if you play perfectly. So if you played extra bad and stalled a lot, you wouldn't have enough stamina or would be burnt out by the time you needed them. This meant that you have to think carefully about your actions like a speedrunner, and not play so casually.

I'm am really sorry that you wasted 2 hours of your time playing this. I even thought about just removing my submission entirely because of this

The style and sound effect come together perfectly, the game mechanics are original, the stomp was a bit difficult to maneuver but still fun.Good job!

Developer

Thank you very much

Nice game! The first wall jump is a little tricky and the stomp jump it's a little difficult to get right (for me).

Developer

One of my playtesters also had a difficult time with getting the stomp jump too, so no worries. I'm just glad that you gave it a try :)

What a true masterpiece in this gamejam! The controls work smoothly, and the "wall grab" and the stomp are so good! Congrats on the result! Would like to compete for the leaderboard hahah, but WebGL really complicates sometimes

Developer

Thank you so much! I wish I would've tested it better (In WebGL, everything went flawlessly in editor) before I found out it was too late (:

Some mechanics were trippy (wall jump, stomp jump) but creative enough. There are also bits lacking guidance for the player. Overall a creative interpretation and interesting game though!

Developer

Yeah, I should've used the arrow sprite a little more, and I could've probably worked on the controls a teensy more. Thanks for checking it out though!

Nice, I like the color scheme :)

Developer

Thanks!

Awesome game! and pretty nice graphics too! The wall jumping is a bit hard and unexpected but other than that its nice.

Developer

Thanks for playing. Adressing the wall jumping, you have to move into the wall and then press jump. For example if you want to wall jump on a wall to your right, you have to hold right and the press jump.

Submitted

Nice game! Visually it looks good, controls are mostly good and responsive.

My only complaint is with wall jumping. It just feels a bit too punishing, like it sometimes doesn't detect that you're next to the wall.

Submitted

This is a really nice game. The controls are responsive and the game looks good as well.

You said the music doesn't work on the webgl, but it does up until you die. Really nice game! Rate my game as well!

The game looked nice and had loads of potential, sadly the sound effects were really loud and a little buggy. Also, I think the wall jumping felt a little forced, but all the other movement felt nice. I also noticed that the theme wasn't included very well, and wasn't a huge part of the game. Still a great game though!

Developer (1 edit)

I added the settings menu for a reason ;) For the theme though, in the later levels you unlock a burnout bar which limits the amount of "special" moves you can do consecutively

Really great game, i love it, the platform work really good, the bump jump looked strange at first, but when i got the hang of it, i changed my mind, the burnout worked well, although is kinda hard to control, got around 30 minutes to complete the game, but it was worth

Developer(+1)

Thanks for investing that amount of time into it. I'm really glad that you played all the way through.
